“Shine Down” demo premiering now exclusively on billboard.com (UPDATED)

Billboard.com just published a new interview with Noel Hogan featuring the track “Shine Down” that should be the “Nothing Left At All” cassette version of the song that we know (impossible to tell as their player does not seem to be working at the moment).

Noel interestingly mentions that he hopes the other Cranberries albums will be given the same anniversary treatment as Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We. However he notes that it “would be harder to find (bonus) things because with (Everybody Else…) we had all the years of build-up for us to get to that point, a lot of stuff between demos and gigs and things that we were able to include. The problem going forward is that album came out and became very successful, so everything we did after that was released or used straightaway. To find rarities may be a bit of a struggle — though I could be wrong. Things could pop up that I may have forgotten about“.

Definitely something fans should be able to help with 😉

Noel also confirms that the final Cranberries album, In The End, should be “very emotional, because of all the things that were going on in Dolores’ life“, and reasserts that “she was psyched about doing the album“, which makes “her death” something “very, very unfair” as “she was very, very positive” : “when she started writing this album it was all very positive and she couldn’t wait to get into the studio or back on the road again“, especially as the band was planning to tour in China in March.

I knew that a 25th anniversary edition of NNTA was a no-brainer – it’s one of the best selling rock albums of all-time and one of the most iconic albums of the 90s. I am willing to bet that there’ll be no shortage of content for this release by the time Noel and the boys start putting it together next year. While there might not be as much unheard/unreleased material as ‘Everybody Else..” they can make up for this by providing a multi-channel mix of the album (in addition to the remaster) and some video content old/new on the making of the album. Many of these deluxe packages from other bands now have video content included, so they can supplement the 25th anniversary release of NNTA with extras like this.

Another thing that would be great would be a feature-length documentary on the band for their 30th anniversary. It’s long overdue, as the Cranberries really don’t have much that’s been written or produced about them. Aside from the 25-minute doc produced by MTV in 1995-96 and the promotion reel for WUASTC, there’s literally nothing on them. Just looking at the Wikipedia page for their albums is depressing when you look at the pages for the other major albums released from that era. The NNTA Wiki-page has little written about it. Pull up the Wiki page for any album from Nirvana, Soundgarden, The Smashing Pumpkins and even Oasis and there’s literally pages of insight on the production and making of each of their albums.

It’s almost been a year, but even today I thought of Dolores. Among other things, it will be because in the spare time when I play guitar, there is always a Dreaming my dreams, an I’m still remembering, a Chocolate brown – but four tones below! – an Empty or – and there in the famous Theeeere I’m very bad in singing – a Daffodil Lament. And I’m glad I do not know how to sing it, because Daffodil Lament must be like that: unattainable. So I think of her. It is a thought that I now hold for myself. From time to time I add a few sentences to a little story that I’m writing about an imaginary person who, especially during his youth, loved the Cranberries. It’s imaginary, but it’s me. Some days ago I pinned the phrase “unbearable goose skin”, because, looking for information on the Tin Whislte instrument – I was trying to play on the guitar the tone of Human Spirit – I happened to read a post in a blog, as there are many and many on the net, in which someone like many others told, in January, the inner shock of that bad news. And every time it’s all similar, all common to me.
When Édith Piaf died, all of France stopped with his head down. As a young girl I did not understand, but now that I am an adult I can say that Dolores O’Riordan was my Édith Piaf.
This will be another sentence that I will add to my little story.
I am sure that the Cranberries have understood that together with them, in a different but personal way, since last January a lot of people in the world sometimes lower their eyes sadly while they are thinking of Dolores.

Always excuse the probable errors: I’m italian and for most of the sentences I used the automatic translator.
