Noel on Smart Arts: “I didn’t really think we could go very far because we come from Limerick”

July 29, 2012  |  Comments Off on Noel on Smart Arts: “I didn’t really think we could go very far because we come from Limerick”  |  by Luc  |  Mono Band, The Cranberries

Noel Hogan reflected on his pre-stardom years as a musician and meeting Dolores at the Xeric studios on his “Smart Arts” series interview.

“Lots of songs from the first album were just instrumentals for months and months [before we met Dolores]” explained Hogan.

Hogan spoke about the first album’s slow start and empty venues in the UK until “Linger” became a hit in the USA.

Noel also spoke about The Cranberries hiatus and his Mono Band project. “I started getting interested into other things, listening to other people -what they were playing and doing- and I kinda thought ‘You know this is more interesting to me than what were are doing’. I could see how you could make electronics stuff with guitars and it kinda interest me a lot.”

Noel finished up the interview talking about his work as a producer and The Cranberries reunion.

December 7, 2011  |  Comments Off on RTÉ 2fm treats Cranfans with ’93 Fanning Session and Mono Band track  |  by The Cranberries Press Archives  |  Mono Band, The Cranberries

Cranfans got quite a treat tonight : RTÉ radio host Dan Hegarty kept his promise made last October and played the entire 1993 Dave Fanning session (and more!) on his Alternative to Sleep show.

During the first hour, listeners had the chance to (re)discover the Fanning session versions of “Wanted” and “The Icicle Melts”. Keeping the rarest for the end, Hegarty then played “Like You Used To” and “False” in the last hour of his show.

The RTÉ radio host also surprised listeners with a RTÉ 2fm session version of “Home” from Noel Hogan’s Mono Band side project. The song was recorded with Richard Walters in 2005.

Thanks to Dan Hegarty and Ian Wilson from RTÉ 2fm!

You can listen to the four 1993 songs on the Fanning Sessions Archive.

The Fanning Sessions Archive site also reveals that there is a project underway at RTÉ to digitise these sessions. “Incidentally there is currently a project underway at RTE to digitise this archive and we await the results with great anticipation.”

Fin Chambers to be featured on Mono Band’s second album

October 14, 2011  |  2 Comments  |  by The Cranberries Press Archives  |  Mono Band

Noel Hogan posted a first picture of the Mono Band recording session via his Twitter account today with the words “Mono band vocals”.

It looks like the guest vocalist is none other than Fin Chambers, who was featured on “Release”, from Mono Band’s first album, and the free-download track “She’s so Blue”.

Hogan added another picture later today and confirmed that Chambers was recording 3 songs for the album.

No other guest vocalists have been confirmed for the second album. It is also unknown if unreleased tracks from the first album sessions will be used.

On March 15, Hogan posted a mysterious tweet:

“Listening to a new mix of Mono Band ‘Flame’ by Session Leopard. Really liking it, will have it online soon.”

“Flame” is an unreleased song recorded with singer Kate Havenevik. Back in late 2007, Hogan also talked about releasing the orignal version of this song online in the news section of the Mono Band website.

Neither the original version nor the Session Leopard mix were released on Internet.

Thanks to Cappuccino, a reader who left a comment in the discussion section, for the info about “Flame”.
