Dolores #1 female artist in alternative songs chart’s History

October 11, 2018  |  Comments Off on Dolores #1 female artist in alternative songs chart’s History  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Dolores O’Riordan literally rules the Billboard chart’s History as top female artist in the alternative songs chart according to the article published earlier today on billboard.com

The Cranberries frontwoman counts 8 entries in the chart (Linger, Dreams, Zombie, Ode To My Family, Ridiculous Thoughts, Salvation, Free To Decide, Promises) including a pair of number 1s. Brilliant!

“Shine Down” demo premiering now exclusively on billboard.com (UPDATED)

October 11, 2018  |  4 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Billboard.com just published a new interview with Noel Hogan featuring the track “Shine Down” that should be the “Nothing Left At All” cassette version of the song that we know (impossible to tell as their player does not seem to be working at the moment).

Noel interestingly mentions that he hopes the other Cranberries albums will be given the same anniversary treatment as Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We. However he notes that it “would be harder to find (bonus) things because with (Everybody Else…) we had all the years of build-up for us to get to that point, a lot of stuff between demos and gigs and things that we were able to include. The problem going forward is that album came out and became very successful, so everything we did after that was released or used straightaway. To find rarities may be a bit of a struggle — though I could be wrong. Things could pop up that I may have forgotten about“.

Definitely something fans should be able to help with 😉

Noel also confirms that the final Cranberries album, In The End, should be “very emotional, because of all the things that were going on in Dolores’ life“, and reasserts that “she was psyched about doing the album“, which makes “her death” something “very, very unfair” as “she was very, very positive” : “when she started writing this album it was all very positive and she couldn’t wait to get into the studio or back on the road again“, especially as the band was planning to tour in China in March.

“There’s a song called IN THE END” – interview on rollingstone.com

October 9, 2018  |  9 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Ahead of the 25th-anniversary reissue of EEIDI, rollingstone.com just published a new interview with guitarist Noel Hogan. He discusses the band’s early days as well as the upcoming final album with Dolores O’Riordan, “IN THE END” to be released early next year.

So there’s a song called “In the End,” it’s the last song on the album, and it just kind of summed up the whole album and the band. Because it’s definitely the end of it for us. So we’ve called it that. In the End. – Noel Hogan

“Íosa” studio version unveiled

September 27, 2018  |  8 Comments  |  by Webmaster  |  The Cranberries

History: clashmusic.com just released for the first time ever the studio version of “Íosa” as a teaser of Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? 25th Anniversary Edition.

Known as the only track written by Dolores O’Riordan in Irish Gaelic, “Íosa” had only been known through 1990s live recordings of Cranberries performances that did not enable lyrics to be deciphered. It was unknown whether the song had ever been recorded in studio or not… Today is thus a day to be remembered!

For those who are ready to get spoiled and be overwhelmed, here is the MASTERPIECE:

Our interview with French Director Olivier Dahan

September 17, 2018  |  5 Comments  |  by Webmaster  |  The Cranberries

We may know Olivier Dahan as the director of La Vie en Rose, Le Petit Poucet or Grace de Monaco, but to us, he is the iconic director of four music videos for The Cranberries as well as one from Dolores O’Riordan’s first solo album.

A few weeks ago, Olivier Dahan was kind enough to answer our questions and revisit his fruitful collaboration with The Cranberries.

Cranberries World: First, let’s start by talking about your first project with the band, how was your first collaboration in 1996, on Salvation?

Olivier Dahan: I worked at the time at ‘Bandits’, the production company owned by JB Mondino. The band contacted me and left me carte blanche for this clip. Dolores had sent me the lyrics telling me about the main theme: a song against drugs. At the time I would always start working with preparatory drawings: so I began drawing this scary clown, then other characters that I placed in some frames that made sense with the lyrics of the song.

Two of Olivier Dahan’s drawings he kindly agreed on sharing with us
(More drawings to be uploaded soon on our “Salvation” video page)

CW: How was your work received by the band, specifically Dolores?

OD: Dolores was more involved than the rest of the band, because she was the one writing the lyrics – but also because of her strong personality. At the end of the day, most of my exchanges at the time of the development of the concept were almost exclusively with her. She would then debrief the rest of the band on the ideas that she and I were contemplating.

CW: What were her expectations for the Salvation video?

OD: Beyond the anti-drug theme, one of the first things that she told me when we talked about the concept of Salvation‘s video was that she wanted her bones to be seen. She liked provocative or disturbing things sometimes. I understood that she was ready to go far and, as a matter of fact, our video was censored in some countries: we thus released a “light” version where scenes of violence, like the scene where the parents are tied on a chair, were blurred.
In general, Dolores was very attentive and wanted her clips not to be formatted. She always tended to want to go beyond mainstream.

CW: Your second collaboration with The Cranberries was in 1999 for the video for their fourth album’s first single, Promises. How was this concept born? Tell us about the idea of having the ‘Robins des Bois’ in the casting.

OD: I wanted a gap between the seriousness of the lyrics and an almost burlesque visual. The Cranberries did not know the ‘Robins des Bois’ and, as far as I’m concerned, I had only seen some of their sketchs. I believe they were only starting out back then, but I thought they could fit what I had in mind. That being said, I have been able to work again with Jean-Paul Rouve or Maurice Barthélémy since, who I both really appreciate. Maïwenn is also featured in this video. She plays the role of the scarecrow.

CW: And what about the atmosphere on the set with the band?

OD: The atmosphere was always very pleasant. I was given lots of freedom for creation; and the band would place their entire confidence in me. Their success, at the time, would allow them to be granted significant budgets for their clips and therefore to have lots of fun. They were always very enthusiastic and excited about our projects. We would get along quite well actually, each of them were very friendly. We spent a fair amount of time together later in Toronto when shooting the video for Animal Instinct. We would go out, attend gigs together, etc.

CW: Animal Instinct is quite different from the two other clips we’ve discussed so far. Where did you get the inspiration for that video?

OD: On this third collaboration with the band, I wanted to do something much more down to earth, with a direct link to the lyrics. This time, the shooting lasted for almost a week, in similar conditions to that of a movie, in Toronto. We worked out an entire story, set up a casting to find the actors… I wanted something that looked realistic. When it was broadcasted, we had to submit an alternative edit of the videoclip, a version that did not feature the intro, for MTV. This story with those kids who are removed from their mother was obviously something somehow too harrowing for them!

CW: At last, the band called on you once again in 2002 to work on the This Is The Day videoclip. What was the idea behind this?

OD: The goal was clearly to make a spectacular video with powerful images. In the end, it was not the link with the lyrics that mattered most here, but the aesthetic side with a rather baroque universe.

Preview of the storyboard of “This Is The Day” that Olivier Dahan kindly shared with us
(See more images taken from “This Is The Day” storyboard on the video page by clicking here)

CW: Dolores would always have those looks, and different haircut in your videoclips…

OD: Something was very clear on each of our collaboration: she had to be transformed, change her appearance. These transformations would motivate her a lot. On each of our collaborations, she wanted her look to be completely different from all the previous ones. Actually, among the first questions she would ask whenever we would start working on a new video concept was: “Alright, so what’s my look on this one? Which costume? Which make-up? Which hairstyle?” That would amuse her a lot. Gigi Lepage, the designer I work with, loved working with her.

CW: In 2007, you worked on the videoclip of When We Were Young, from Dolores’ first solo album. How was this collaboration different from those you had experienced with the band?

OD: Actually, it was not any different. The one main difference was the budget! The challenge here was to find some aesthetic ideas that could fit within this limitation. We shot the video in Paris, with sequence-shots, within a day. We made several sequence-shots this way, and chose the right shot together, there was no montage. Shooting started in the morning, and by the end of the day, the clip was done.

CW: Throughout all of these years, did you ever get to see the band play live?

OD: I did, several times! They had even asked me to film one of their concerts back then, though, unfortunately, I was already working on other projects at that time.

CW: Last question, which of these videoclips would you consider your favourite among all of those that we’ve discussed?

OD: The one that marked me most is probably Salvation, because it was our first collaboration and the concept worked very well. This Is The Day was also a beautiful collaboration: I produced this clip with Hervé Humbert, and worked with a graphic designer, Marc Latil, who I appreciate a lot; and I think the result is very powerful, visually speaking. The concept actually evolved throughout the process. During the shooting, we had not yet considered projecting images in space. We only got to improvise this later.

“IN THE END” The Cranberries’ final album title amended by The Guardian (UPDATED)

September 14, 2018  |  20 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The Guardian just edited their online version of their interview with the lads as there were a few mistakes. Read below the notification added in the very last lines:

This story was updated to correct two errors. The Aer Lingus incident occurred in 2014, not 2016. At the time of her death, O’Riordan was in London to mix a record with her side project D.A.R.K, not to record vocals for Bad Wolves.

Furthermore, the article now features another amendement regarding the name of the album. “THIS IS THE END” has now been replaced by “IN THE END”… Could that be another mistake that hasn’t been listed in their “update list”?

Let’s not numerous fans have already been commenting on how heartbreaking “This Is The End” sounds, so let’s hope this time The Guardian got the title right…

1st version with “This Is The End”

2nd version with “In The End”

UPDATE – SEPTEMBER 14 – 3:30 PM (UTC)

The guardian edited their online article for the second time, again amending errors, although this time the name of the album hasn’t changed. So now looks very likely that “In The End” will be the title of the ultimate album.

We may thus wonder if this was a mistake from the journalist – as we can imagine that The Guardian would have listed this error on their “update list” while amending the article for the 2nd time – or if the band has decided to change the title between Sept 3rd and yesterday, thus requiring an amendment once the article was already printed.

3rd version still with “In The End”

Here’s also below the hard copy of the newspaper, shared by ‘The Cranberries Newspaper’ on Facebook, thanks to them. It appears that the printed paper features a different photo of the lads and the first version of the article, meaning the album title mentioned is “This Is The End”.

BREAKING: Noel, Mike and Fergal’s first interview since Dolores passing, revealing the name of their ultimate album (UPDATED)

September 13, 2018  |  8 Comments  |  by Webmaster  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Today, The Guardian published the first interview of the lads since January 2018.

As we know, the band has been avoiding media interviews and requests to take part in commemorative projects these last months, asking for people to respect their wishes for privacy at this very difficult time.

However, as the 25th anniversary edition of “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” is about to be released this October along with The Cranberries final album called “THIS IS THE END” that will be released in 2019, the band spoke today for the first time to The Guardian at Strand hotel, Limerick, discussing the “challenges of working without [Dolores]”

Click here to read the article where the band says that their ultimate album will be “really strong lyrically“.
They indeed explain that “she always said she found it hard to write songs when she was happy. She always said: put a bit of misery in her life and it was easier.

The band also confirms that “This Is The End” will be their last album:
“We will do this album and then that will be it,” [Noel] adds. “There is no need to continue.”

The Guardian treats us with the first photoshoot of the band without Dolores, heartbreakingly describing the scene:
The band step out on to the balcony to do the photoshoot. Noel stood out here with O’Riordan the last time he saw her. This is new for them: no frontwoman, no idea how to stand, to pose, without their focal point. ‘With Dolores, doing pictures was so easy, because you knew exactly what to do’ he smiles. ‘Just all get behind her’.

UPDATE – SEPTEMBER 14 – 3:40 AM (UTC)

“IN THE END” should in fact be the title of the album and not “THIS IS THE END”. See our update by clicking this link.

As pointed earlier by our team and other fans, the broadcast appeared to feature a ten minutes interview of Sinead Lohan from 1998 that was incorretly attributed to Dolores O’Riordan. Moreover, “there was a clear inference that the members of The Cranberries band had used drugs”.
A correction and apologies from RTÉ were thus in order.

EEIDI 25th Anniversary boxset: tracklist details confirmed

August 29, 2018  |  Comments Off on EEIDI 25th Anniversary boxset: tracklist details confirmed  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Amazon.co.uk is currently updating their pages with some more details that pretty much come as a confirmation of our tracklist guess:

Indeed, disc 2 will be featuring:
– probably already known b-sides versions released on the Complete Sessions 1991-1993 (tracks 5-10)
– Uncertain EP (tracks 11-14)
– Dreams unmixed demo (track 15)
– Dreams pop mixed demo (track 21)
– “early demos” that seem to be those featured on the Water Circle tape (16-20) though Shine Down wasn’t on the tape, which means these could be unknown demos!

Unfortunately, no info yet as per this Íosa version which is featured on the “studio/demo” CD so fingers crossed this hopefully shouldn’t be one of the known live versions.

As for disc 3, it looks that it will indeed feature the live recording of the band’s July 31st 1994 performance at Féile festival.

Although disc 4 no longer appears on the page, it’s pretty clear to us it will feature the following radio shows : 1991 Dave Fanning Show (1-4), 1992 John Peel Show (5-8), 1993 Dave Fanning Show (9-12)

This it it! Amazon UK just updated their page and opened pre-order for the Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? 25th anniversary edition boxset.

The album will be released on 19 October 2018 and seems to be featuring a large booklet along with some never seen before printed photos of the band:

Click here to preorder on Amazon UK. Other Amazon countries should appear pretty soon.

As a reminder the tracklist has already been revealed a few days ago, click here to know more about the audio content of the boxset.

Additionally, HMV confirms there will be a 2CD edition with only the content of Disc 1 & 2.
One may note that the remastered album will be released on CD and LP as well (1-disc only for both):

It seems unlikely a vinyl boxset will see the light of day but we never know…

BREAKING: EEIDI “25th Anniversary Edition” album tracklist revealed (UPDATED)

August 26, 2018  |  16 Comments  |  by Webmaster  |  The Cranberries

A new boxset featuring 4 CDs appeared these last days on Amazon (Italy, France and UK), it’s non available for sale nor pre-order yet and will be released by Universal/Island. The price is £40.75 that is to say, more or less €45 and $53.

No doubt this is the first preview we’ve got of the Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? 25th Anniversary Edition that is to be released in September.

The tracklist appears as follows:

DISC 1

  1. I Still Do
  2. Dreams
  3. Sunday
  4. Pretty
  5. Waltzing Back
  6. Not Sorry
  7. Linger
  8. Wanted
  9. Still Can’t…
  10. I Will Always
  11. How
  12. Put Me Down

DISC 2

  1. Íosa
  2. What You Were
  3. Linger
  4. How
  5. Liar
  6. What You Were
  7. Reason
  8. How
  9. Them
  10. Pretty
  11. Uncertain
  12. Nothing Left At All
  13. Pathetic Senses
  14. Them (Xeric)
  15. Dreams
  16. Sunday
  17. Linger
  18. Chrome Paint
  19. Fast One
  20. Shine Down
  21. Dreams

DISC 3

  1. Put Me Down
  2. Dreams
  3. Uncertain
  4. Pretty
  5. Wanted
  6. Daffodil Lament
  7. Linger
  8. I Can’t Be With You
  9. How
  10. Ode To My Family
  11. Not Sorry
  12. Waltzing Back
  13. Dreams
  14. Ridiculous Thoughts
  15. Zombie
  16. (They Long To Be) Close To You

DISC 4

  1. Dreams
  2. Uncertain
  3. Reason
  4. Put Me Down
  5. Waltzing Back
  6. Linger
  7. Wanted
  8. I Will Always
  9. The Icicle Melts
  10. Wanted
  11. Like You Used To
  12. False

From what we see, we can imagine that:
Disc 1 is the remastered version of the album
Disc 2 features demo/studio versions of the songs (1-10?), as well as the Uncertain album (11-14?) & the Water Circle tape (16-19?), and the two never heard before demo versions of Dreams that Noel Hogan recently found on a tape (“very first demo” of Dreams that isn’t mixed as Noel took the cassette home before any mixing was done, and a “pop mix” featuring a different intro and outro)
Disc 3 could be a live concert (or live tracks) from the 93/94 era that very likely looks like the July 31st 1994 concert at Feile Tipperary Festival from tracks 4-16 though from what we know, the performance was starting with Sunday instead of Put Me Down/Dreams/Uncertain…
Disc 4 looks like radio sessions tracks starting with the 1991 Dave Fanning Show (1-4), the 1992 John Peel Show (5-8), and the 1993 Dave Fanning Show (9-12)

Thanks to Stephane for the finding and to Edward for his analysis of Disc 3!

UPDATE – AUGUST 28

– It seems a 2 CD version will be available as well as Amazon.es and Amazon.fr both listed a Barclay release with Disc 1 and Disc 2 content only.
Will there be more versions?

– Concerning disc 3, some of our readers are saying the first 3 tracks (just before the Féile 94 show) could be from Cork Rocks 1991. Until now, only “Uncertain” and “Dreams” have surfaced taken from the Dave Fanning Show. Definitely a high probability!!

– On Amazon UK the price decreased, it’s now £34.48

‘Just our imagination’ – article on Dolores mural in Limerick

‘Just our imagination’, an interesting article on Dolores mural in Limerick posted today on arestlessart.com
Remember, it’s one of the tributes reviewed here last week.

Tributes to Dolores continue

August 18, 2018  |  Comments Off on Tributes to Dolores continue  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

More than 7 months after the passing of Dolores, tributes all over the world continue. We can’t review them all as they are too many, however let’s note 3 interesting ones which just happened these last few days:

The first tribute is currently hanging proudly at Connolly’s Cross, Co.Limerick. It was made by the art school ‘Class Art Studio’ from Ballyadam, Pallasgreen, Co Limerick. Over 30 children worked on different parts of the mural, each painting an individual butterfly inspired by The Cranberries song “Just My Imagination”.
More photos on the Class Art Studio’s Facebook.

Second tribute to notice concerns a band called ‘whenyoung’ who covered “Dreams” to pay their respect to a band who inspired them. The band members grew up in Limerick too…
The song is now available on Spotify and you can watch below the video posted on Vevo/YouTube:

The 3rd interesting tribute just happened a few hours ago on the Irish TV channel RTÉ One where the national school choir from Moyross, The Corpus Christi School Choir, performed “Dreams” in a show called ‘Up For The Match’ ahead of this Sunday’s All Ireland Final.
The performance was just posted on YouTube:

“Something Else” reissued on green vinyl: first images (UPDATED)

August 1, 2018  |  4 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

As you may remember the album “Something Else” will be reissued on green vinyl in 2 days (August 3rd) and today the first images of the sealed front cover with its sticker appeared on the internet on Instagram here and here. No image of the green vinyl itself for now but it should appear pretty soon. You can still pre-order the album now as this limited edition colored vinyl is not yet sold out. It’s available almost everywhere, for example on Amazon.com

UPDATE – AUGUST 2

Pretty soon indeed! Here comes the first photo of the green vinyl. Thanks to Instagram user patric_sea and to Isaac for the link.

“No Need To Argue” blue vinyl: first images

July 17, 2018  |  Comments Off on “No Need To Argue” blue vinyl: first images  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The first images of the limited edition “No Need To Argue” blue vinyl just appeared on the internet (on eBay). This is a new color made by Runt and now in stock and available on their website for $29.98
Not to be confused with the Clear & Blue version already released a few months ago.

It seems that this version replaces the Pink & Orange one supposed to be released on May 4, 2018 and which never saw the light. Indeed the old Pink & Orange page now displays this Blue vinyl.

“I Heart The Cranberries” – review, photos and videos

July 10, 2018  |  Comments Off on “I Heart The Cranberries” – review, photos and videos  |  by Webmaster  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Back from Limerick where some members of the Cranberries World team were privileged and moved to be part of the “I Heart The Cranberries” concert at Dolans where Limerick city paid tribute to Dolores O’Riordan on July 5, 2018.

Dolans pub

Ros I Measc Lusanna An Chromchinn

As you may know, the event was organized by Limerick musician Emma Langford, who decided in January, a few days after sharing the stage with Noel Hogan at a charity event for a suicide and self-harm prevention center, that Limerick needed to honour Dolores memory: “after her tragic and untimely death I – among many, no doubt – wanted to make sure a tribute happened here in Dolores’ home town, and it had to be done right”.

All profits from the event went to Adapt House, a domestic violence support service, as well as Limerick Mental Health which was recommended to Emma by Noel Hogan himself as this is a cause he emphasized Dolores would care deeply about.

As announced in a statement from The Cranberries on March 9th, none of the band members were attending the concert at Dolans although they explained they were “touched and honored” that this tribute to the band and their music was taking place:

However, some of the band’s acquaintances attended, as pointed out by Hot Press who noticed that Niall Quinn, original member of The Cranberry Saw Us, was there.

The evening started with an instrumental version of “Zombie” performed by the duo of violinists Maria Ryan & Lucia MacPartlin.
Emma Langford then presented the event before giving the floor to The Cranberries fanclubs, with a small word from our team and a speech by our friends from Cranberries Italia, who, let’s recall, raised over €2,000 for Limerick Learning Hub – again, a project recommended by Noel Hogan – in order to give back to Dolores’ hometown the kindness Dolores gave to her fan community.
Emma was later joined on stage by Hannah Nic Gearailt and Sara Ryan to launch the gig with their performance of “When You’re Gone”, setting an emotional tone for the evening to come…
Watch the video below:

SETLIST & PERFORMERS:

PART 1:
01. Zombie (instrumental) – Maria Ryan, Lucia MacPartlin
02. When You’re Gone – Hannah Nic Gearailt, Sara Ryan, Emma Langford
03. Twenty One – Synead Toomey, Kayleigh O’Brien Music
04. No Need to Argue – Tracy Bruen
05. Dreaming My Dreams – Louise O’Flanagan, Sarah Croker Music
06. Sunday – Claire Heffernan, Hannah O’Brien
07. Yeat’s Grave – NIMF
08. Put Me Down – Jenny McMahon (DeLorean Suite)
09. Linger – The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra

PART 2:
10. Pretty – MZKA (Jane Fraser)
11. Animal Instinct – Roisin El Cherif
12. Why? – Susie Q
13. Salvation – Siân Brown Music
14. Ode To My Family – Grainne Hunt Music
15. Daffodil Lament – “The Cranberrinis” Jean McGlynn, Norma Lowney, Jessica Bray, Jean Wallace
16. Dreams – Niamh Farrell (Ham Sandwich)
17. Zombie – all artists

House band:
Drums: Shane Wixted
Bass: Lesley-Ann Halvey
Guitar: Eoin Culhane
Guitar: The Danny Lanham Trio
Strings: Strung (Maria Ryan & Lucia MacPartlin)

As shown above, the event was divided in two parts, first one focusing on soft songs with an emphasis on acoustic renditions of the songs as opposed to the second part that saw full band performances of the band’s hits – apart from a barbershop quartet performance of “Daffodil Lament”. Duration, approximately 150 minutes (including the 15/20 minutes break between two parts).

Thumbs up to all the artists for the work done on their arrangements, especially as we remind everyone that they were all volunteering their time for this tribute.
Some songs stood out from the artists’ reappropriation of the original Cranberries songs, such as NIMF’s electronica and ambient version of “Yeat’s Grave” or Jane Fraser’s rendition of “Pretty” sampling bits of an interview given by Dolores, “I Just wanna be Dolores”.

NIMF – Yeat’s Grave

MZKA (Jane Fraser) – Pretty

People will also remember Ann Blake (from The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra) who introduced “Linger” by telling the crowd of her experience singing at Dolores O’Riordan wedding with Don Burton back in July 1994, as Dolores had invited students from her former school Laurel Hill Coláiste – among whom Ann was – to perform for her big day. She was lucky enough to witness Dolores perform “Panis Angelicus” on this occasion.

The Brad Pitt Light Orchestra – Linger

Like a proper Cranberries concert, the gig ended with a fantastic rendition of “Dreams” by the ‘1994 Dolores look-alike’ Niamh Farrell who was later joined on stage by all artists to perform a final, powerful and very emotional version of “Zombie” which the crowd sang along at the top of their lungs to remind, “loud and clear”, how Irish people and worldwide fans LOVE this band.
Watch the video below:

Some cool pictures of the event taken by photographer Dolf Patijn have already been published, click here to see the whole 102-photos album posted on the Facebook account of www.ilovelimerick.com.

Suzie Q – Why?

Roisin El Cherif – Animal Instinct

All artists on stage – Zombie

Major thanks to Emma, the Dolans Pub and the Limerick LGBT Pride for giving life to this event and celebrating the life and music of Dolores O’Riordan & The Cranberries, fans are very grateful for this beautiful – and indeed cathartic – experience.

Also, special thanks to all the fans from Italy, Spain, Sweden, France and Cork who joined us for our preshow fan gathering!
Our memories are her legacy, let’s keep her alive, all together ❤

A bench in memory of pupil Dolores O’ Riordan

June 7, 2018  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Two days ago the Catholic Voluntary Secondary School for girls Laurel Hill Coláiste FCJ based in Limerick published on Facebook a photo of a bench they unveiled last week as a tribute to their former pupil Dolores O’ Riordan.

Our Comhairle na nDaltaí unveiled a bench in memory of our past pupil Dolores O’Riordan last week. It is placed in our 6th year garden with lyrics of her music to provide inspiration for years to come. Míle buíochas for such a beautiful and fitting tribute.

The bench features three lines in Gaeilge and English: a quote from the song “Ordinary Day” along with Dolores O’ Riordan’s name written in Irish as the school is a school where Irish is the medium of instruction.

1971 DOLORES NI RIORDAIN 2018
ALWAYS BE YOURSELF ALONG THE WAY
LIVING THROUGH THE SPIRIT OF YOUR DREAMS

We do not know yet whether the bench is in a private space reserved for students or if it’s accessible to all who’d like to come and visit. A great tribute, for sure!

Update on The Cranberries’ upcoming album recording

May 22, 2018  |  7 Comments  |  by Webmaster  |  The Cranberries

A month after The Cranberries have started recording their new album for which Dolores had already recorded vocals, it seems the band is currently putting the finishing touches and it should now be a matter of days before they’re done with this new record.

The recordings started on April 16th at Kore Studios, in London, where the band worked until May 4th.
Studio pics during this session interestingly show the use of a bass clarinet.

After a week break, the band came back one last time at Kore Studios on May 14th to add strings, and then moved on the following day to Stephen Street’s Bunker studio in the 13 studios complex in West London.

There, they were joined for a couple of days by Johanna Wiseley (Cranitch) who fans are familiar with as she’s been working with the band as backing singer/keyboard player on tour since 2012.

Johanna posted a photo on Instagram yesterday, stating that she had finished putting the backing vocals down, and confirmed on the occasion that this album should unsurprisingly be the “final” album.

Although listening to this record will be very difficult for most of us, fans, we’re feeling very thankful to the band and their crew who are devoting themselves to giving life to Dolores’ last tracks, as they feel this is “what [She] would have wanted“.

Early years rarities, episode #2 from Alan’s collection!
Following the upload of his audio recording from 1991 concert at Limerick’s Parkway last February, here’s a second gem surfacing almost 25 years after it was recorded. Again, Alan recorded this one himself on his walkman back in 1993 at Two Mile Inn, Limerick.

Alan purposely chose not to stand at the front for this recording, as opposed to The Parkway, in order to try and get a better sound; he thus stood close to the FOH mixing desk. It remains an audience recording so the quality is pretty similar to the 1991 recording. The recording features the complete show, only a few seconds before the encore are missing as Alan had to flip the cassette, but there’s no song missing.

What’s particularly striking on this recording is the never heard before early version of “Zombie”. Obviously this was one of the first time (maybe the very first time?) the song was played live in concert.
Dolores introduces the track simply mentioning it is “another new song, it’s called Zombie”.
The song does sound very similar to that we know, still it features some interesting differences:
“Zombie” is actually played quite fast, kinda like a 33rpm at the 45rpm speed.
Dolores sings alternative lyrics in the 2nd verse of the song “another mothers broken heart has hardly spoken”. Also, the line “with their tanks, and their guns, and their bombs” happens to be “with your tanks, and your guns, and your bombs” at that time.
One may note that Dolores doesn’t exactly sing as she does on the album version and the words “in your head” and the ultimate “Zombie” are for instance sung very softly compared to what we’re used to.

It’s funny to note that what will turn out to become The Cranberries biggest hit was barely applauded that night. Yet, the crowd, which as you can hear was very talkative on that night, does pause to pay attention during 3 to 4 particular songs, and “Zombie” is of them; definitely a good sign 😉

Thank you Alan, everyone can now listen to the earliest live version known to this day of the masterpiece “Zombie”. (The previous earliest version of the song was the Paris radio show “The Black Sessions” recorded on 3 May 1993).

The rest of the set also includes songs which were rarely played live after 1993 like “Away”, “I don’t Need”, “Reason” or “I will always”.
Most of the other classic songs played on that night sound very close to the album versions we’re all familiar with (as opposed to The Parkway show where songs rather sound very fresh and almost like demos than the final versions), which is not too surprising as The Cranberries first album was just a few weeks old at the time.
All in all, a great boot to listen to, enjoy it!!!

Everybody Else’s 25th anniversary album likely to be released mid September

May 2, 2018  |  4 Comments  |  by Webmaster  |  The Cranberries

As the May Bank Holiday weekend is getting closer, Todayfm published an audio interview of Noel Hogan last Monday, ahead of the talk he his to give with Stephen Street at VINYL festival in Dublin this Saturday.
Quite a moving interview, as this is the first time we hear one of the boys since Dolores’ passing.

Noel indeed chats to Muireann O’Connell, pleasantly coming back on the early days memories.

Asked about the 25th anniversary edition of “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?”, Noel says the album should now be released around mid September!

As for The Cranberries new album due for release in 2019, Noel says there are still 3 weeks of recording coming in London, where the band has been for 2 weeks already.
He explains the album will be a combination of some tracks he had started writing with Dolores last summer, with some others she had already written herself before.
The lads are thus turning these demos on laptop into proper Cranberries song as they feel these tracks can make a “strong enough album” and that this is “what Dolores would have wanted“.

Again, our team is sending them all our support as this must obviously not be easy.

It’s great to know they are surrounded by the “original team” from the early days to do this all together.

We love you guys!

The lads back in studio to record next Cranberries album

April 17, 2018  |  10 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries are in studio this week to record the next (and possibly final?) Cranberries album. These last 24 hours, they published a few photos on their Instagram account:

    “So we start the album”

    Mike

“Back in the studio” – (Noel with a new tattoo)

    “Day 2 of recording”

Let’s note the band was in studio last week as well (or maybe just Noel?), at the famous Abbey Road studios in London, to remaster the “Everybody Else…” album for the 25th Anniversary edition that should be released later this year.

This week, the three of them gathered at Kore Studios, in London too, to record a brand new Cranberries album. For those who are wondering how they’ll be dealing with vocals without Dolores, please keep in mind the last interview Noel Hogan gave to RollingStone: “I spoke to Dolores last Friday and she was great. We spoke about getting back to work – recording and new tracks we were working on. She sent some of those tracks to me by email on Sunday morning”, as well as the band’s recent statement: “we will also be completing the recording of a new studio album as previously announced, which we also started last year and for which Dolores had already recorded the vocals.

Everyone can easily imagine how painful going through these tracks must be for the lads. Like many fans who are supporting them through social media, we’re sending love and courage to Noel, Mike and Fergal.

We love you guys, In It Together!

Possibly the earliest The Cranberry Saw Us photo ever! (UPDATED)

April 14, 2018  |  Comments Off on Possibly the earliest The Cranberry Saw Us photo ever! (UPDATED)  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

*****VERY RARE*****
Do you recognize those teenagers, how old were they?
Do the math, this photo of the foursome The Cranberry Saw Us was published on 27 January 1990 in a local newspaper called “Limerick Tribune” along with a review of their very first demo cassette, “Anything”.
The singer at the time was Niall Quinn, he is on the very left and you probably know the names of the others. One of the earliest photos of the band ever… if not the earliest(?)

Niall Quinn (16), Mike Hogan (16), Fergal Lawler (18), Noel Hogan (just turned 18)

The complete Limerick Tribune article is available on the magazine section or directly by clicking here. This is the earliest article about The Cranberry Saw Us known to this day.

Thanks to Sue for this gem!

UPDATE – APRIL 15

Niall Quinn posted on Twitter a few more details about this photoshoot, the only one The Cranberry Saw Us (with him as singer) did:

What songs for Everybody Else’s 25th Anniversary album?

April 12, 2018  |  16 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

As you may have already seen on socials, earlier today The Cranberries posted a video and a photo on Instagram from the famous Abbey Road Studios in London where they are currently remastering “Everybody Else…” for the album’s 25th anniversary.

As a reminder the classic album counts 12 tracks:

1.  I Still Do
2.  Dreams
3.  Sunday
4.  Pretty
5.  Waltzing Back
6.  Not Sorry
7.  Linger
8.  Wanted
9.  Still Can’t…
10. I Will Always
11. How
12. Put Me Down

and the “Complete Sessions” album released in 2002 added 6 more tracks:

13.   Reason
14.   Them
15.   What You Were
16.   Liar
17.   Pretty (Prêt-à-Porter Movie Remix)
18.   How (Radical Mix)

Let’s note the band earlier mentioned they would be including some unreleased tracks and other bonus material from the era on this anniversary edition of the album. The fans already know of 5 unreleased songs from this period, thanks to bootleg recordings, as some of these were played a few times live in concert in the early years:

A IOSA
FALSE
LIKE YOU USED TO
SAME OLD STORY
SERIOUS

The question is… have all these songs been recorded in studio back then?
And what about some more unknown songs we would never have heard about, is there at least one or two somewhere?
Could the 25th Anniversary Album be an ultimate double CD/LP including all those 23 or more songs?
Time will tell… but today, the remastering has just started and it’s a bit of a nice news at this difficult time!

2 more NNTA colored vinyl reissues: “White” and “Pink & Orange”

April 1, 2018  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The series will never stop!!!
The album “No Need To Argue” will be reissued on colored vinyl again and again. Two more colors are coming: “White” and “Pink & Orange”. One color really makes sense and one really doesn’t…

Still made by the label Plain, both versions will be released on 4 May 2018 and do not seem to be limited. A possible oversight (?) as all previous NNTA colored vinyl reissues were limited.

Click here to preorder the White version.
Click here to preorder the Pink & Orange version.

As usual on runtshop.com, price is $29.98 (each) including shipping for USA. Worldwide shipping is available for a few extra dollars.
