Bury The Hatchet double LIVE album at Concert Live??

February 19, 2016  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The website Concert Live just published a new page where you can pre-order “Bury The Hatchet double live album”. Release date is March 18th.

2016.02.19 concertlive BTHLIVE

This probably is a mistake from Concert Live. Those guys often make mistakes, it is not the first time and it probably won’t be the last. For example see this past news where they announced unreleased recordings when it was not!

This 2LP version of Bury The Hatchet must probably be the recent Deluxe Edition 180 grams released last January in USA exclusively which would be now available for the first time in Europe. Otherwise if it really is a LIVE version of BTH this record would be completely unreleased & new.
Probability: 1% (or should I say 0% !!)

UPDATE FEB.20

The word “live” was removed today! No more details if it is the 180 grams edition, but it sure is.

Concert in Lublin, Poland confirmed as first gig of the tour

February 16, 2016  |  10 Comments  |  by Camille  |  The Cranberries

According to a Polish webzine, Rock Magazyn, the band will start the 2016 European tour in Lublin, Poland.

As opposed to the dates that have already been announced yet, this one will not be a festival performance. The band will indeed play in a stadium (Lublin Arena) on June 3rd.

We’ll update this post as soon as we find an official confirmation for this.

Polish fan Milosz B. sent us a link towards official Lublin Arena website, that comes as a final confirmation for this performance.

For those who follow us on Facebook, we posted a link towards a Polish article yesterday about a possible date in Lublin. A Polish fan, Krzysztof S. informed us that this is only a rumor at this stage.

However, Italian fan Sara L. found out a ticket link this morning showing that the band is to play festival Cognac Blues Passion in France on July 7, 2016.
This is confirmed on the festival website.

Let’s note the band was to play this festival the exact same day on July 7, 2012, though the band cancelled their whole summer shows, including this date.

Now confirmed on the official Facebook of The Cranberries, still nothing on the official website still displaying “News coming soon”

UPDATE at 5:00PM (GMT)

The Limerick Leader published a great article that sums things up pretty well, reminding readers of the new publishing partnership with Warner/Chappell Music UK that Noel & Dolores signed in April 2015, and quoting the interview the band gave to “Coffee with a sign painter” last July.

Oldies but goldies… (UPDATED)

January 27, 2016  |  12 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries fans are still waiting for news from the official Cranberries website still displaying “News coming soon”.  Well, the band might be waiting for Dolores’ judgement (handed down on February 24) before making any announcement.

In the meantime a lot of old rare photos appeared (or re-appeared on better quality) on the internet. Some of them direclty posted by The Cranberries on their official Facebook and some others found by dedicated fans always searching the internet day after day. So thank you to all for these gems!

And last but not least Sara from CranberriesItalia found an instagram video (15sec only!) of Dolores singing Linger in an Irish pub in Killarney, May 2015. It is a 1-acoustic-guitar version. The guy playing with her is unknown for now. Possibly just someone who knew the song and was hanging in the pub at this time.
And as Sara says : “Maybe the only case in which Linger sung in a pub can’t be defined as cover”

Noel Hogan will share some Cranberries news soon (UPDATED 2x)

December 30, 2015  |  11 Comments  |  by Axl  |  D.A.R.K., The Cranberries

Noel Hogan:

To all asking….
Very soon I will have Cranberries news.
Happy New Year.

Breaking news tonight posted by Noel himself on his twitter account and except a few fans who will always say I knew it, I felt it, I saw it in my crystal ball etc… his words were totally unexpected for most people.

His short message spread the internet like rarely before and every fans started to imagine what the surprise could be. Naturally the first idea concerns a band reunion to make a new album and/or a new tour.
The word reunion has no really sense as the Crans never officially nor unofficially split. Anyways!!
This “reunion” is probably the most expected thing by the fans and is also one of the hardest to believe (for now) regarding the past months/years:
After the end of the Roses Tour 3 years ago in December 2012 a lot of things happened, band members returned to their families and side projects naturally appeared. To name a few: The Pigtown Fling and other Limerick City of Culture projects for Noel and JetLagNYC, Like A Puppet Show and a possible 3rd solo album for Dolores.
Not to mention major upheavals and revelations concerning her private life: divorce from husband, air rage incident, sexually abused when she was a child, trial, new lover…

All these things don’t argue for a reunion soon as many things are still on the process and we have to remember words recently said by Noel: “The Cranberries is such a big thing, we have to lead it at a time when we can all focus on that and not have kind of other things going on at the same time to make everyone happy”.

Well, who knows, life is full of surprises sometimes and The Cranberries reunion could still happen tomorrow… but what could it be if not a reunion?

Some say it could simply concern a new release. Like Beneath The Skin on Bluray HD or more LP’s reissues or it could be a new record made of old stuffs like B-sides, rare studio or live tracks, or even another greatest hits…
Some more people say it might concern a collaboration / soundtrack / film project.
But it might be something completely fresh and new as well.
Do you have any idea? Please tell us.

For now no one really knows.
The surprise is total.

2016 might be great.

Happy New Year !

The Ultimate Live Collection: The wait is over

November 4, 2015  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

After more than 3 months the wait is finally over.
The boxsets have been shipped last week as promised by Concert Live and some have been received.
This is a large box (29 x 23 x 12cm) with magnet closure.
The color is a clear allusion to The Cranberries and is a great choice. Don’t pay attention to photos below, they don’t do justice to the exact color.

tulc1
Merry Christmas

Inside you can find 5 live albums recorded on the 2010 Reunion Tour:

  • Palacio Vistalegre, Madrid – 12/03/2010
  • Halle Tony Garnier, Lyon – 21/03/2010
  • Amsterdam Music Hall, Amsterdam – 23/03/2010
  • Columbiahalle, Berlin – 27/03/2010
  • Royal Albert Hall, London – 31/03/2010

Once opened and the wrapping material removed, the box seems it bit (too?) large for only 5 albums.

tulc3

tulc4
The artwork is similar to the one used in the multi-other pressings already released.
This time the inner picture of the band is reversed. Which one is the correct one, probably this new version.

tulc5Here below the difference between 2 London albums.
(The different colors on cd’s are only due to the flash, there ‘s no difference!)

tulc7

The back cover of the new version. Nothing really changed there except the catalog number.

tulc6

CW definitely have to complete The Cranberries discography one day to compare all the versions.
Quite a lot of work to do and those live albums by Concert Live are not the easiest part.

tulc2
Maybe the reason of this quite empty and too large box is to fit all of their different versions. Genius!
A great box and a great item to own if you are a serious collector.
Still available on their website for £30 plus shipping.

The Cranberries really are wild young things!

July 20, 2015  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

She has the voice of a saint stuck in a glass harp while being pelted with ice cubes by vicious clangers.

Their shyness is not only painful, but infectious too.

(…) it’s even more embarassing to watch because they’re so shamingly perfect!

These are the most beautiful high notes you’ll ever get to hear outside of La Scala

Those words belong to Sally Margaret Joy and were published in the Melody Maker on 13 July 1991. She went to see The Cranberries live in concert in a pub called The Old Trout in Windsor (UK) on 28 June 1991 and her concert review is one of the earliest review known to this day.

It may be very possible to find a few earlier articles/reviews inside rare local newspapers or fanzines but her article might definitely be one of the very first about The Cranberries published in a mainstream musical media.

Full review available on the dedicated concert page here.

Brand new interview of The Cranberries

July 15, 2015  |  4 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Yesterday and totally out of the blue appeared on the internet a brand new 27 minutes audio interview of The Cranberries minus Dolores. The weekly podcast is called “Coffee with a sign painter” and usually takes place in Starr Studios in Texas but this time it was recorded in Limerick Ireland. The exact recording date is not yet known but it sure is quite recent, “a few days ago” according to Noel Hogan’s Tumblr account. Host Sean Starr talks with Noel, Mike and Fergal about The Cranberries, the influence of Morrissey and The Smiths, the music industry, Limerick, family, life in the 80’s, not jamming together for fun on their time off, Sign Painting and the upcoming screening of the film Sign Painters at the Elemental Arts Festival in Limerick this coming September.

2015.07.14 starrstudiostx1

2015.07.14-starrstudiostx3

But the most important thing for any fans concerns the future plans/music of the band and it comes from Noel around minute 23:

I think if we decided we were gonna do it like we did a few years ago around 2009, when we went back again you know, when we get back into it, it suddenly consumes everything again. You’re doing it, you’re away all the time and you are writing and you’re in the studio and we completely focus on that then when we get back into it.
So if it’s something we do again, and I’m sure we probably will, we’ll lead it at a time when we can all focus on that and not have kind of other things going on at the same time, because as I say, it’s such a big thing when we take off that you have to kind of commit 3 years of your life really to the thing. Cause sometimes you kinda tour short, you don’t go to one territory and next you get these fans that are seriously pissed off with you so you kinda have to keep everybody happy, that’s why it takes so long then.

So, will there be new music of The Cranberries? Will there be concerts again? No one can really tell for now but at least it doesn’t look impossible and that’s pretty good news!

Also posted on the Instagram account of starrstudiostx a selfie with the band made at the show by a kid named Seth Collins. Fun!

“Linger” – Framed and numbered “Soundwave Poster”

June 26, 2015  |  Comments Off on “Linger” – Framed and numbered “Soundwave Poster”  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Remember Concert Live?
Those who recorded a few concerts of The Cranberries in 2010 and 2012 and sold the CD’s at the end of the show directly at the venue. Today they are releasing a limited edition soundwave poster of the legendary track “Linger” framed and numbered 1-25

Any of you hear about a soundwave poster before? Probably not… Well it simply represents a graphic sound wave such as the ones you can find in any audio or video software on your computer. No music in there, only visual and this one is based upon the “Concert Live” artwork, the one from 2012 with the roses… and that’s pretty much it!
Click here (link no longer available)  if you’d like to buy one, price £35
Make it fast, 25 is a very limited edition!

Soundwave poster – Linger

And for those who still don’t have the “Concert Live” official live albums you can buy some of them (both 2010 and 2012) these days for a special price of £3.

“Linger” played during “The Bachelorette” TV show (UPDATED)

June 22, 2015  |  6 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

According to Fanberries on Facebook who was following “The Bachelorette” TV show live, The Cranberries minus Mike and Fergal played “Linger” with a string quartet at Christ Church Cathedral in Dublin while two candidates were dancing together. It was an acoustic performance.

The TV show didn’t play the whole song (only 2 minutes) and there were dialogues on it at times. However, still according to Fanberries, it is worthwhile.

Dolores and the string quartet behind – “The Bachelorette” (image: abc)

For now you can watch a 2-min video captured by David Elieser Alvarez and shared on Fanberries Facebook. It looks like David filmed his TV screen with a cell phone. Thanks to him.

Another and a little longer video (3 min) was recorded by The Cranberries Brasil and shared on their Facebook. Thanks to them as well.

Later at night, Andrew Kimmel producer of “The Bachelorette” published on Instagram a photo with Dolores, and a few words:

…and Chris Harrison, the host of the show, published a 13-sec video on Instagram, with a few words as well. Obviously he was one of the few people allowed inside the cathedral during the recording. His short video is very interesting because it is an audience recording and direct sound inside the cathedral can be heard… and it sounds beautiful… with all the depth and space of such a place.

UPDATE – JUNE 23

The full appearance broadcast on abc is now available on YouTube.
Thanks to Pep Vila for sharing.

Dolores spotted at Treyvaud’s Restaurant in Killarney

May 7, 2015  |  Comments Off on Dolores spotted at Treyvaud’s Restaurant in Killarney  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Dolores was spotted today at Treyvaud’s Restaurant, 62 High Street, in Killarney, Ireland. Is this a coincidence? BWWTV was mentioning yesterday that the Bachelorette dates would attend a private Cranberries concert and then move on to Killarney. Looks very much like the private concert took place/is taking place these days.

As a matter of fact, the restaurant owner first posted a simple message on Facebook

…and about an hour later, still on Facebook, posted a photo with Dolores and the message “Hanging with Dolores!!

The Cranberries appearing in the next season of “The Bachelorette” (UPDATED)

May 6, 2015  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Sort of breaking news today as several articles in the medias mention The Cranberries playing a private concert in the new season of the TV show “The Bachelorette” USA version. Season 11 premieres next May 18th on ABC.

Travelling across the Atlantic to Ireland, the dates are filled with explosive revelations and drama, as the group journeys to Dublin and a stop at the magnificent Christ Church Cathedral. The Bachelorette and one lucky man are treated to a private concert by the popular rock group The Cranberries. Then their Irish excursion moves on to Killarney with a romantic trip to the Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone.

It looks like all the episodes are now recorded so if true The Cranberries reformed at least for one day. Hope we can have more details soon as it would be the first show of the band in about 2 years and a half.
This is not the first time The Cranberries or Dolores solo appear on TV/Movies (Charmed, Click…) and it is always nice to see them in projects like this.

“No Need To Argue” to be reissued on 180g vinyl on July 17th

April 23, 2015  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Title says it all…
Good news for collectors and people who still don’t have “No Need To Argue” on vinyl, the masterpiece album will be reissued on Plain Label on July 17, 2015 and can be pre-ordered online right now for $23.78 on runtshop.com

runtshop.com

The news directly came from Runt on Facebook last April 9th:

For now The Cranberries or their management made no official statement, so it is too soon to know if the LP will be available anywhere else but according to the Runtshop pre-order page the offer doesn’t look exclusive nor limited edition.

This reissue might directly be linked to the partnership recently signed by Dolores and Noel with Warner/Chappell Music. If that is the case we could expect some more reissues in the coming months/years.

UPDATE – MAY 12

EARLIER THAN EXPECTED THE LP IS NOW IN STOCK.

The Cranberries’ songwriters sign with Warner/Chappell Music

April 2, 2015  |  4 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

According to the article entitled “Cranberries’ songwriters sign with Warner/Chappell Music” published on musicweek.com, Dolores and Noel signed a publishing partnership with Warner/Chappell Music UK covering their share of the band’s body of work 1993-2004 from “Everyboby Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We?” to “Wake Up And Smell The Coffee”.

Richard Manners, Managing director of Warner Chappell UK says:

I am delighted Warner/Chappell will provide a home for the works of Dolores and Noel, and I am especially happy to be reunited with their amazing music having signed the band’s original publishing deal at the start of their career. This is a distinctive catalogue, melodically and lyrically, and their huge international success has given it a truly global reach. They continue to be popular and highly respected musicians today, and we look forward to working with them and their management team to create new opportunities for their outstanding compositions and build on their already impressive career.

This is pretty good news which proves that Dolores and Noel still can agree about The Cranberries. Up to now, nobody has heard again of the court action launched by Dolores against Noel a year and a half ago so it looks like things are getting better between them.

Also, let’s emphasize that in this article, P.J. O’Riordan (Dolores’ brother) is mentioned as Dolores’ manager.

The Cranberries #36 in what British people love the most in Ireland

March 10, 2015  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

No, Guinness is not what British people love the most in Ireland, Irish accent is!
Guinness “only” is number 2.

The Cranberries are number 36 which 25 years after their debut is not that bad. By comparison U2 is #16, Sinead O’Connor #17 (both recently released an album) Thin Lizzy #22 and The Pogues #10 amongst many other ultimate Irish legends.

The list of the 50 greatest Irish things was made according to a survey which took into account the opinions of more than 2000 people in the UK.

No doubt all of you readers/fans would have placed The Cranberries as reason #1 to love and visit Ireland.

Your chance to live in a piece of Irish Rock History

December 1, 2014  |  Comments Off on Your chance to live in a piece of Irish Rock History  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Almost 2 years ago the Legendary Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin had issued an appeal to musicians who have worked there to collect their master tapes or else they’ll be destroyed. Among them The Cranberries. Most of fans know this is the studio where the band recorded some of their best albums including the debut Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?
Until today nobody knows if members of The Cranberries rescued their master tapes or not. Let’s hope yes as these recordings really are MASTERPIECE.

Today the article entitled “Your chance to live in a piece of Irish rock history for just €200k” published by herald.ie reports that the famous Dublin recording studio is to be sold at auction with a reserve at €170,000/200,000.

Wanna live where artists like The Cranberries, U2, The Police and Sting, The Waterboys, Mary Black and many more recorded some of their best songs, today is your chance. Anyone interested?

3 new drawings of Dolores/T.C. by the one and only The Hand

August 13, 2014  |  3 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

If you are a long time Cranberries fan you know The Hand FOR SURE. He is possibly the best cartoonist who has ever drawn The Cranberries. These last couple of days he published on Facebook 3 new drawings of Dolores and the band. Everyone may recognize different periods in time:

This first drawing clearly is inspired by Dolores’ last look on “The Voice of Ireland” TV show, a very 1993 look with hair partially shaved and rings on the ears. This one was published today, August 13th.

This second drawing seems to be a mix between past and present. Dolores still has the recent look of “The Voice of Ireland” while her pose reminds of us of an old picture of her. Published on August 9th.

This one belongs to the old times with the whole band and the legendary sofa. Published on August 4th.

Just for fun, let’s pay attention to this fourth drawing which does NOT represent any band members as it is just two “hipster” runners according to The Hand, but the look of these guys is very close to that of Noel Hogan these days, don’t you think so? Published on August 6th.

Brilliant!
The Hand is still a very talented five star artist.

2 rare and unreleased new pictures

August 4, 2014  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Fanberries just added 2 great rare pictures on Facebook, thanks to him for these 2 gems!
First one was taken in Cork Ireland at Sir Henry’s on June 1, 1991 and originally appeared online on Dailyedge.ie’s website inside an article about the legendary venue and some of its memorabilia. It is unclear whether this show is one of the last under the name The Cranberry Saw Us or one of the first (maybe the first) under the name The Cranberry’s.

Dolores and Fergal at Sir Henry’s – June 1, 1991

The second picture is quite recent in comparison. This is not really a picture as it is usually understood but one from the official guestbook of the concert’s venue (Auditorio Nacional) signed by Dolores on September 2, 2007 in Ciudad de México (Mexico City).

Official guestbook – Ciudad de México – Sept.2, 2007

We don’t see that kind of information too often as generally it is not supposed to be public. For example another guestbook we have here on CW comes from the very last show (to this day) of The Cranberries and is signed by all 4 band members.

As some of you may have noticed, last week the most important international and unofficial website from the late 90’s and 2000’s about The Cranberries went definitely offline.

As announced in May by its webmaster Alex Kraus, the website was supposed to go offline early june but for some reason had an extended time until mid-July. Even if the site officially closed in the fall of 2007 it stayed online until last week, enabling fans to keep on checking old pages. Let’s thus hope everyone had enough time to save those precious pages for personal archive or later use.

Anyway now it is gone, so… rest in peace ZG and thank you Alex for all those great years.
Now it’s part of History in The Cranberries world.

Dolores O’ Riordan to collaborate with The Smiths’ Andy Rourke

April 27, 2014  |  Comments Off on Dolores O’ Riordan to collaborate with The Smiths’ Andy Rourke  |  by Luc  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

In an interview on RTÉ 2fm on April 18th, Dolores O’ Riordan told Nicky Byrne that she is to collaborate with Andy Rourke (The Smiths, Morrissey).

I have written a bunch of new stuff“, told Dolores.

She also told Byrne that she’ll go to Los Angeles to meet some casting agents as she is interested to get some cameos or small roles there. For O’Riordan, her experience on The Voice was to see if she liked doing some TV. And she did.

Dolores also indicated there is no plan for a Cranberries reunion right now. “You know I just did a reunion tour a couple years ago, and then I did another album, Roses. It just started to be predictable again. It’s nice to move on, different shores, different expriences…

Dolores and ex-Westlife member Byrne also remembered about their duet in 2001 at the Vatican Christmas Concert with “Little Drummer Boy”.

You can listen to the interview on our interview section on CW.

“Zombie” is back on the US iTunes charts

March 15, 2014  |  Comments Off on “Zombie” is back on the US iTunes charts  |  by Jury  |  The Cranberries

The biggest Cranberries hit, “Zombie”, is back on the iTunes charts… thanks to the US version of the popular talent show “The Voice”.
On the March 3 episode of “The Voice”, one of the contestants, Clarissa Serna, performed “Zombie” during the Blind Auditions.

According to the article entitled “The Voice recap: Clarissa Serna wows with Zombie performance” published by HollywoodLife.com, she “prompted an elusive four-chair turn with her haunting, original take on The Cranberries’ Zombie. Clarissa definitely made a bold song choice — and her risk paid off! Adam [Levine] said her deliciously ’90s performance made him nostalgic and it appeared he wasn’t the only one. Each one of the judges wanted Clarissa on their team, but she ultimately decided to go with her “Latina soul sister” Shakira“.

hollywoodlife.com

As a result, Clarissa Serna’s performance put “Zombie” back on the iTunes charts, with the peak of #33 according to our reader Ben. (Huge thanks to Ben for the heads up!)
An article entitled “The Voice’s Clarissa Serna drives iTunes sales for Zombie” published on Headlineplanet.com is talking about that:

It’s impossible to watch Clarissa’s performance at “The Voice” as all videos uploaded on the internet are immediately removed for copyright reasons but you can listen to her studio version below:

The Cranberries are still making profits

December 5, 2013  |  Comments Off on The Cranberries are still making profits  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

For those who might have doubts, an article entitled “New album comes up ‘Roses’ for The Cranberries as profits jump to €320k” and published in the Irish Examiner today reveals The Cranberries are still making money as a band.

The article is interesting but quite technical as the journalist Gordon Deegan gives fairly precise figures earned by the band’s Curtain Call Ltd in 2012, a year boosted by the album “Roses”. All four members have a 25% shareholding in Curtain Call Ltd.
Even if the revenues are not in million(s) anymore probably due to the crisis in the music industry these last years (but which artist is not impacted!) this is still a good news.

Noel Hogan to give an award for charity auction (UPDATED)

November 23, 2013  |  Comments Off on Noel Hogan to give an award for charity auction (UPDATED)  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Yesterday Noel Hogan informed us on Tumblr that he was giving one of his personal award for charity auction with no more explanation.
We do not know where this “To The Faithful Departed” Argentinian Gold Award will be auctioned, let’s hope we’ll get a clue soon for those who’d like to get their hands on such a pretty rare item.

Dolores O’ Riordan to headline New Year’s Eve concert in Limerick

November 14, 2013  |  6 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, Mono Band, The Cranberries

Limerick will definitely be the place to be in 2014!
The Irish city is indeed officially declared “National City of Culture” for the whole next year.

If you read Noel Hogan’s messages on Tumblr,  you may have already seen his recent posts about the “Limerick City of Culture 2014” and followed his collaborative production projects for the town.

And here comes the next step today, the Limerick Leader just announced that Dolores O’ Riordan will be performing at the first ever New Year’s Eve concert to take place in Limerick. Something quite obvious when we all know that The Cranberries are still the biggest hometown band to this day!

Immediate notice: why Dolores solo and not The Cranberries?
No answer to that yet, anyways…

If you’d like to go to the show, tickets will go on sale tomorrow (Friday) on Ticketmaster.
A crowd of up to 2,800 people will packed into Merchant’s Quay in front of City Hall for the ticket only gig.

Dolores will be joined by the Irish Chamber Orchestra for an “exclusive worldwide performance” to open Limerick’s stint as National City of Culture. Other artists are planned and names will be revealed in the coming weeks.

The show will be broadcast on Irish TV RTÉ.

Dolores O’ Riordan to launch court action against Noel Hogan

October 25, 2013  |  8 Comments  |  by Camille  |  The Cranberries

A weird piece of news to wake up with this morning as we find out in the Irish Press (Irish Independent & Limerick Leader) that Dolores O’ Riordan is about to launch court action against Noel Hogan.

According to these articles, the “cause of action in the filing is listed as a declaration” but no other details have been given as the singer, her spokesperson and Noel remain quiet about the matter.

This, of course, is quite unexpected as The Cranberries have been stating since their reunion tour in 2009 that they’ve always been in good terms and that both Dolores and Noel had even kept writing for each other during the band’s hiatus.

Let’s hope for more news to understand what’s happening exactly and see if that can affect the future of the band as this is quite worrying and shocking for us, fans.
Let’s also note that both articles seem to be repeating the content of a press release without clearly understanding what’s at stake as they’re using the same exact terms.

Curtain Call made good profits in 2010-2011

April 14, 2013  |  6 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

A year before the release of their first album in 10 years, The Cranberries made good profits through their own company, Curtain Call Ltd.

According to the Irish Times, the band’s company recorded well-deserved profits of €71,973 in 2011 and €248,183 a year before, mainly with their Reunion Tour, while music sales continues to decline in the entertainment industry for a decade or so.

Each of the band’s four members has a 25 per cent stake in Curtain Call.

With the release of “Roses” in 2012, followed by short tours in Asia and North America and an extended one in Europe, 2012 must have been a good year for the band, financial-wise.

A new old and unusual recording of The Cranberries to surface

March 30, 2013  |  8 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Yesterday a new bootleg of The Cranberries surfaced on the internet. It is almost 11-year old as it was recorded live in concert on June 1, 2002 in Pompano Beach, USA (near Miami) during the “Wake Up And Smell The Coffee World Tour ’02”.
We usually don’t write any news when a new bootleg comes out and we simply add it to our bootleg database (which is small for now but is bound to grow over the coming months and years).

This new old recording is an exception as it is quite special and deserves a few explanations.
Why?
Because we usually know 2 ways of recording a concert: Professional made by professional and authorized people and Audience made most of the time by fans in the crowd and unauthorized.

The bootleg that surfaced yesterday belongs to a another category as it is an IEM Feed source and this is the first ever IEM recording of The Cranberries known to date for now. Many of us just have no idea what an IEM Feed is and what it means. IEM is for In-Ear-Monitors. Let’s make it simple, it is the headphones that all musicians have on stage nowadays. And each musician have its own mix inside, for example a bass player might want to hear the bass louder than the other instruments etc…
Datfly (the uploader -and maybe taper?- of this new bootleg on dimeadozen.org) tells us, in file description, that the recording features very heavy Dolores vocals so there are good chances that the IEM Feed recorded here is Dolores’ one.

There we have a professional source recorded by a non-professional and probably non-authorized person. The result is kinda unique and everyone will have its own opinion on the quality and interest of the thing. It’s up to you to listen. Hear the accuracy of Dolores singings like rarely heard before. Anyway what is for sure, The Cranberries Fans Community definitely have a new collector piece!

“Raining In My Heart” to be licensed for TV and movies (?)

March 9, 2013  |  7 Comments  |  by Jury  |  The Cranberries

According to a very intriguing promo CD that has surfaced on eBay, The Cranberries’ song “Raining In My Heart” might have a chance to be featured on some TV shows or movies.
The promo CD is called “Music Alternatives January 2013” and it features songs from various artists including The Cranberries. The CD is released by Music Alternatives and, according to the company’s website (musicalternatives.com), it specializes in “placing their artists’ music in film, television, commercials, video games, trailers, soundtracks and special markets.

“Music Alternatives January 2013” promo CD includes “Raining In My Heart”

Songs from Music Alternatives’ artists were placed in many popular TV shows such as “Grey’s Anatomy”, “Criminal Minds”, “Supernatural”, “Castle”, “How I Met Your Mother”, “Bones” and many many more….

“Raining In My Heart” was the second promo single from “Roses” in some countries, so who knows, maybe Cooking Vinyl didn’t give up on a promotion of the latest album? Placing new songs in popular TV shows is quite a common practice. For example, The Cranberries’ songs “Analyse” and “Never Grow Old” were placed in “Smallville” and “Alias”.
Maybe in few weeks we’ll hear “Raining In My Heart” in some TV show or commercials?

No Cranberries at Zacatecas

March 8, 2013  |  2 Comments  |  by Luc  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Zacatecas Festival seemed to have announced their 2013 line-up prematurely last month: there never was an agreement for a show between The Cranberries and the festival. We can only assume that the rest of the rumors about Dolores are also unfounded.

About the rumors…

March 6, 2013  |  2 Comments  |  by Luc  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Rumors  have been spreading around about Dolores health for a few days now, since Zacatecas Festival canceled The Cranberries gig originally scheduled for March 25th.

Our fansite has chosen not to contribute to the rumors and not to put a name on whatever possible reason the gig was cancelled.  Remember that the band has not announced anything about this, so we can only presume that these are speculations. We would also like to point out that some statements by the Zacatecas representatives include some inaccurate information about Dolores’ previous health condition. The only known health problem that Dolores suffered from over the last few years was some vocal cord nodules.

The current rumor could be a simple misunderstanding.

Whether or not Dolores is afflicted by a health problem, we feel that she should be the one announcing it publicly if she wants to, not some concert promoter. We feel that the last days’ statements were inappropriate.

BREAKING NEWS: Zacatecas festival cancels Cranberries gig

March 4, 2013  |  5 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Zacatecas festival announced that The Cranberries will not attend their festival according to DireccionesZac. The band had not confirmed its presence to this festival nor decline it on their official website.

Last week, the Zacatecas festival included The Cranberries on their official program.

Let’s hope that everything is alright with the band and that their silence is only due to some [well-deserve] time off, even though everyone misses them already.

Thanks to Cranberries Mexico for the news.

Windmill master tapes might be Universal-Island’s property

March 2, 2013  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

Master tapes recorded at the Windmill Lane Studios might be Universal and Island’s record property, as the record label probably paid for the recording sessions back then.

Tony Perrey from Windmill Lane Studios was interviewed today on RTE radio and explained that in many cases, records labels have the rights on these master tapes. No words on The Cranberries in this interview though…

You can listen to the interview HERE.

Thanks to the Dave Fanning Archives for the info.

20 years ago: Everybody else was doing it… and so did they!

March 2, 2013  |  Comments Off on 20 years ago: Everybody else was doing it… and so did they!  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries’ debut album turns 20 this week-end… and sounds as fresh as if it was recorded yesterday! Released on March 1, 1993 in Europe and March 2nd in North America, “Everybody Else Is Doing  It, So Why Can’t We?” was recorded at the mythical Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin, Ireland

Last Thursday, we learned that the mater tapes of this album, which could include possible outtakes and unreleased tracks, are facing destruction as Windmill Lane Studios appealed to musicians who have worked there to collect them before next May or else they’ll be destroyed.

The Cranberries began the recording of their first album in January 1992 with Pearse Gilmore who previously worked with them on their Xeric label material. However, the band was not happy with the results and the work was scrapped. “Unhappy with the results – Gilmore had cluttered the mixes with dance beats and industrial-style guitar – and barely on speaking term with each other, the band scrapped the tracks and fired Gilmore” (Rolling Stone Magazine, March 23, 1995, page 60). After hiring a new manager, the band started working again on the album, this time with producer Stephen Street.

Everybody Else… peaked at #18 on the Billboard 200 and stayed on this chart for 130 weeks (more than 2 years!). After a rough start in the UK, the album reached #1 of Album Charts and stayed in chart for 86 weeks. The album sold almost 8 millions copies worldwide, making it the second best selling Cranberries album after “No Need To Argue”.

The album was reissued in 2002 with its singles’ b-sides as bonus tracks.
Check out our Everybody Else… album page for more details about this record.

Also, two nice recent reviews of the album, one written last year and the other just a few days ago. They look back at the album which became a 90’s classic:

The Cranberries master tapes face destruction

February 28, 2013  |  4 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

Time is actually ticking out!!
Legendary Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin has issued an appeal to musicians who have worked there to collect their master tapes, among them some of The Cranberries recordings, or else they’ll be destroyed.

Some of the old tapes, including work by The Cranberries, on display at Windmill Lane Studios

“We’re appealing to any artists who’ve worked here using two-inch multitrack tapes to come in and reclaim them because we’re in the process of disposing of these tapes” Ian Brady of Pulse told RTÉ Ten. Windmill is now owned by Pulse Recording College.

The Cranberries recorded “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?“, “To The Faithful Departed“, “Wake Up and Smell The Coffee” and part of “Bury The Hatchet” at Windmill Lane studios. Who said everything?

Many of the tapes are either demos, master tape back-ups or discarded takes. Windmill Lane Studios will start to destroy the unclaimed tapes on May 7th.

Let’s hope that the band sees this and reclaims their tapes to save them for posterity! Wouldn’t it be nice to have some alternate takes or unreleased tracks just in time to celebrate “Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?” 20th anniversary this year?
