EPOK Article

February 4, 2000  |  Comments Off on EPOK Article  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

Apparently, quite a few people thought the recent French EPOK article was one of the best they’ve read in years, so here’s some highlights for you:

“She was interviewed in Epok, a French zine and the article was really interesting as she [Dolores] stated that she did not like at all who she was before (during the EEIDSWCW period), and that she would never again write songs such as Zombie, because of the political issues when you wrote such engaged rock…quite surprising though. I will definitely post the whole French article there soon, as it made me thought of all the opinions that were posted a month ago about what this list members think of ‘Berries music and how it evolved. The original ‘Berries spirit is definitely lost, I guess so, as Dolores clearly stated she would never write again the same love songs she used to.
In this very interview (I’ll send it tomorow), she said that she feels like playing in a movie in the future: “It would be fun”. But, she also said that she will work on the next album. Nevertheless she says too that she hates some love songs she wrote earlier, because she has now found true love, and she consideris she did not know what she was speaking about when writing these songs.”

Thanks to Francois Gibello for the article highlights.

New Song?

February 1, 2000  |  Comments Off on New Song?  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

The Waltzing Back Website brings word of perhaps a new Cranberries song from the next album. The song is supposedly titled “Cruel Summer”, and was heard by attendees of the Europe Loud and Clear Tour during the sound checks. Bands usually tinker around with new songs during sound checks, so there may be truth to this rumor.

Hello there all ye Cranberry heads!

I would just like to thank all you guys for your loyalty and support on our “Loud & Clear” tour.

The American leg was quite good, but Europe blew me away. Just some amazing receptions. I was totally impressed. I loved Spain, Italy, France, etc.

Noel is a dad now and Ferg is expecting in the next month or so. They will busy for a while.

We are going to rehearse and write the 5th album. We won’t record it until August and will do some festivals during the year. Our first is in April in Spain at Esparrago 2000 – So we are going to do ass kicking again – Oh I love Rock n’ Roll.

Hope to see you later this year and hope you had a great Millennium and Xmas!

Lot’s of love,

Dolores x”

Live in Paris Press Release

December 21, 1999  |  Comments Off on Live in Paris Press Release  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

We finally have official word about the release of the Live in Paris video, to be released next spring. This press release was given from the company who got the exclusive right to publish it.

“IMAGE ENTERTAINMENT TO HANDLE WORLDWIDE DISTRIBUTION OF BRAND NEW CONCERT FILM “THE CRANBERRIES: LIVE IN PARIS”

Home Video and Broadcast Rights Granted in Exclusive Agreement with Island Records, Inc.

CHATSWORTH, CA (December 21, 1999) – Image Entertainment, Inc. (NASDAQ: DISK), a leading licensee and distributor of DVD programming in North America, today announced the signing of an exclusive agreement with Island Records, Inc. that grants Image all facets of home video and broadcast distribution, worldwide, for The Cranberries: Live In Paris, filmed December 9th at the Palais Omnisport de Paris Bercy in Paris.

The Cranberries, the internationally known rock quartet hailing from Limerick, Ireland, was formed in 1989 and their first single, “Uncertain”, was released by Island Records in 1991. The band’s first album, Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We? was released in March 1993 and has sold over five million copies, spawning two hit singles: “Linger” and “Dreams”. From there, The Cranberries went on to release No Need To Argue and To the Faithful Departed, each album more successful than the last, and winning international awards and recognition, including the MTV Award for European Single of the Year for “Zombie”.

The band took a three-year break from touring and recording in 1996. They are now back with a bestselling album, Bury the Hatchet, which topped the charts around the world. They are also in the midst of an internationally acclaimed world tour of 46 cities, including London, New York, Paris and Milan. To date the band has sold over 31 million albums. This is their first concert, since 1994, to be released to home video, and marks The Cranberries’ first DVD release.
The Paris concert will be released on DVD, videocassette and for broadcast in the Spring of 2000. The DVD will feature Dolby Digital and DTS multichannel audio. The video was produced by Ned O’Hanlon for Dreamchaser Productions, audio was produced by the band and the program was directed by Maurice Linnan.

New Tour Dates Considered

December 19, 1999  |  Comments Off on New Tour Dates Considered  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

According to a recent interview with Fergal after one of the recent UK gigs, the Cranberries are considering booking new tour dates for France for June of 2000. Nothing is official right now, but because of the large crowds of the recent French shows, I would say rebooking that area would be a good move on the band’s part.

New Album Confirmed

December 12, 1999  |  Comments Off on New Album Confirmed  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

As stated by Dolores recently on French radio, the band is going back to the studios again early next year to recrod Album #5. Here is news from the official page to confirm that:

“Dec 06th 1999

(written Dec 4th and 5th)

Hi, how’s it going ?

I’m still alive. I haven’t been writing too much recently as I’ve been concentrating on the tour, so apologies to anyone who has been waiting.

We are in Madrid and I think I’ve eaten too much “Paella”, I’m feeling a little bloated but there are two hours to go before the gig so, it should be digested by then.

All the shows so far have been great, thank you all for coming. We have been playing a mixture of songs from all four albums and the reaction to the new stuff has been fantastic, it still amazes me how fast people can learn the lyrics.

It’s been great flying home every few days, (the joy of waking up in your own bed is a thing you do not take for granted when you have toured for a long time!) I thought it would feel a little strange because I wasn’t on the bus, but I’ve had a few days where I stayed out here (in Spain) for a bit of a party which is always good for bonding!

We were discussing our plans for next year today and I can tell you that we hope to start recording some new material in May and we will definitely be doing Summer festivals around Europe and the Womad festival in South Africa. We are also trying to organize to go to South America but that has not been confirmed yet.

Woo-hoo! Great news today! . In Belfast both sides sat down together around the table so hopefully they will be able to work things out and we will finally have peace in our beautiful country.

It’s now Dec 5th and we are in Barcelona . A few of us went out around the town for a while then we went to eat at the “Hard Rock Cafe” and did a little tour of the bars until 4.30am. But surprisingly I felt great this morning, there is something magic about this city. It is without doubt my favourite!! O.K. it’s time for me to start my stretching etc. before the gig so talk to you later.

DONT FORGET TO CHECK OUT THE LIVE WEBCAST ON THURSDAY 9th DECEMBER. Read message below for instructions!

Take care,

Fergal.”

Fourth BTH Single!

December 11, 1999  |  Comments Off on Fourth BTH Single!  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

It’s now about as official as it gets. This Thursday, the Cranberries did their last show in the France area. The show was broadcasted over the internet, and was recorded for future release. However, the biggest surprise, is when after the encore, the Cranberries came back out to play one more song — again. Dolores roused up the crowd to a loud cheer to the effect that they are still in the middle of the show, and replayed “You and Me”. The announced that they would be releasing this as the music video. As you may recall, they’ve done this before. For the first album, they made a “Dreams” live video, which was taken directly from the first live home video. However, according to those that attended the show, not all of the concert was recorded. If you’ve been to one of the recent concerts, you’ll know that they now have some large screens to show close-ups for the unfortunate in the back. Anyhow, according to the sources, Dolores announced that only a few songs would be recorded, and that when they were, these screens went blue. If so, only “Salvation”, “Zombie”, and another song were recorded. So does this mean that the upcoming video won’t have the entire show? Or will it be a compilation-type video of different live shows? Or will there even be a live video at all?!

Dolores in New Benefit Video

December 4, 1999  |  Comments Off on Dolores in New Benefit Video  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

Dolores makes a VERY brief appearence in a new benefit video for children. The music video consists of dozens of artists doing about 2-second clips of the song “It’s Only Rock and Roll, But I Like It”, originally recorded by The Rolling Stones.

New Video and DVD!

November 24, 1999  |  Comments Off on New Video and DVD!  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

According to Mercury Records (the division of Universal in Germany), the upcoming Paris concert, the last concert in the area, will be broadcasted over the Internet by the official page. Not only that, but the concert will be recorded and released on VHS and DVD early next year! This is great news to hear that the old Live video (now out of print) will finally get a new addition.

New Single!

November 20, 1999  |  Comments Off on New Single!  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

Ok, so it isn’t from “Bury the Hatchet”, but there’s a new single coming out from the Berries! According to Mercury Records, the “Ave Maria” duet with Dolores and Pavoratti will officially be made a single. In case you haven’t heard of it, Dolores did a benefit concert back in 1995 with called “Pavoratti and Friends for the Children of Bosnia”. The concert was recorded and released on VHS and CD under that title. Also, if you attended any Cranberries concerts this year, and heard a Cranberries song playing at the end, this was that song. I don’t have tracks or dates right now, but when I more info, I’ll let you know!

BTH “Russian” Edition

November 17, 1999  |  Comments Off on BTH “Russian” Edition  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

Sometimes you have to laugh at a bootleg because they don’t get the songs right. But this is beyond pathetic…

Need I say more? And once you’re done laughing, you can look at the back of this “import”.

Piracy looks more legit every day, doesn’t it?

JMI Delayed?

November 15, 1999  |  Comments Off on JMI Delayed?  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

According to a few sources around newsgroups and mailing lists, the worldwide release of “Just My Imagination” may be postponed until NEXT YEAR. I haven’t heard any official news on this, but Europe has been the only area to see this single thus far, which is unusual. However, I have also heard that the UK release got cancelled, although I’ve seen copies of it floating around on eBay. The release may just be limited, and not cancelled. However North America, Asia, and the rest of the world haven’t seen it yet. (Can you say “import”?)

New 2-CD Set

November 10, 1999  |  Comments Off on New 2-CD Set  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

According to various online import stores, a sequel to the EEIDISWCW and NNTA 2-pack has been released in Europe. The set has been dubbed “Double Must” and includes TTFD and BTH. It seems odd to me that they would package these two albums together, as according to the band, BTH is the start of a new “trio” of albums.

Gold CD Contest Winner

November 8, 1999  |  Comments Off on Gold CD Contest Winner  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

The band has now officially chosen the winner of the Gold Disc of BTH. From the official page:

“COMPETITION WINNER ANNOUNCEMENT”

…and the winner of the competition for the Gold Disc is….Yvette Johns Putra, from Selangor in Malaysia. We sent Yvette an email yesterday, and her response was ” I want to say thank you so much to The Cranberries, the best band in the world. I am overjoyed at being the winner of the contest. I hadn’t expected this at all!”

Well done Yvette!
-Fergal.

COMPETITION WINNER

November 8, 1999  |  Comments Off on COMPETITION WINNER  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

The competition for the signed Gold Disc ended a long time ago, and only now have we sifted through the entries, picked out the right answers, and drawn a winner. If you remember, the question was “What does Mike like with his Turkey?”. Well, the answer to that was “Cranberry Saw Us”, which is a little play on words as well as being the original name of the band. This answer was the only correct one to go into the hat and be drawn by myself (Fergal). We printed off each correct answer, crumpled the paper into a ball, and just drew one piece of crumpled paper out of a hat at random. The winner will be informed today, and until we get a response via email, we won’t announce the winner on this website. Fair is fair. So, check your email folks! Bye for now,

-Fergal.”

New Album Recording

November 5, 1999  |  Comments Off on New Album Recording  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

A few days ago, Dolores went on a French radio station to answer different questions by the fans. Most of the questions were minor, but there was one that was certainly newsworthy. In response to a question about the next album, Dolores said that the band was going into the studio in January of next year to record the next album! (Hey, that’s only two months away, people!)

Official News

November 4, 1999  |  Comments Off on Official News  |  by Zombieguide Archives  |  The Cranberries

News from the official page:

“How’s it going?

It’s the 4th of November and I’m at home on a day off. Dolores and myself have been flying home to Ireland because she isn’t bringing her son Taylor with her on the road for this tour, and I want to spent time with my wife because she is pregnant. Noel is flying over and back to London as he and his wife are having their baby there. Poor old Mikey is travelling on the bus because he doesn’t really like flying.

It is a much different way of touring for us but the cool thing is that you get to spend your day off at home. Although I must admit we were talking last night and we all agreed we must stay out on the bus a couple of nights for a good old party!!!!!

Anyway, enough rabbiting on. We played our first gig of the European tour on Monday in Rotterdam. It was a bit of a tough gig to be honest as we have two new sound guys, and everything sounded a bit swirly, but the audience was mega, so we just ignored the sound problems and got stuck in. Last night we played in Lyon and everyone agreed that it was one of the best audiences we’ve had. So if anyone that was there is reading this, thank you and we hope you enjoyed it!

I’ve just spent the last hour reading some of the stuff that different Cranberry fans have been chatting about on the Internet. It’s really cool to read things from your perspective and it gives us ideas of what you do and don’t like. Also I just want to say, DON’T WORRY, we are NOT going to retire after we finish our 6th album. We want to keep the Cranberries going for as long as possible !!!

I just heard the other day that there are talks of some Australian and Asian shows in March 2000. As soon as I get confirmation I’ll let you know.

That’s it for now ,
Talk to you soon.

Fergal.”

Hello there,

We are still at home in Limerick, although we are working!!! We did a press conference here the day before yesterday to announce our first Irish concert since 1994. (That will be Millstreet, Co. Cork, Dec 11th) We are really looking forward to it as it is always very special to play in our home country. There are always lots of family and friends so it makes for a very emotional night.

I have some more good news which is that there are some more Cranberry babies on the way!!!!! Noel’s wife is expecting twins in February and my wife is expecting a week later. Woo Hoo!!!! It’s an experience I can’t wait for especially after spending time with Dolores’ son.

We travel to Paris on Monday for a few days to do some T.V. shows and then we are off to Milan, Amsterdam, Stockholm, Madrid and various parts of Germany.

Doing T.V. shows is a completely different thing from doing a live concert because you are not in control of everything, but that can add to the excitement which is always good thing.

I’ll talk to you soon as now I am going to watch Ireland play Australia in the Rugby World Cup..

See ya later,

Fergal.”

It is over four years since the Cranberries last played in their home country, and with over 150,000 Irish album sales under their belt, the band announced today that they will conclude their European tour in MILL STREET, CO. CORK on 11th (Correction!) December 1999. 22nd October sees the Irish release of “Just My Imagination”, the third single taken from the band’s current album ‘Bury The Hatchet’ which has sold in excess of two and a half million copies worldwide, and hit the number one spot in eleven countries.

The video for the new single “Just My Imagination” was directed by American director Phil Harder and shot on location in Ireland, and Irish viewers will be the first in the world to see it.

The band have just returned from a triumphant American tour: “…. O’Riordan sang the melancholic ‘Dying in the Sun’, it was a moment of intense vulnerability that left you pining for more’ (Hollywood Reporter on final US date). The European tour will be the biggest tour by a major rock group this fall, dates are selling out all over the continent.

Tickets for the Mill St concert go on sale Saturday 9th October, and are available through all the usual outlets. Tickets are priced at Ā£22.50 (+ subject to the usual booking fee).”

Every once in awhile, you stumble upon something quirky that sticks out in your mind. Check out this Bury the Hatchet Promo CD-ROM from Italy!

Also, I found out that not only is there an Asian version of BTH that comes with a white and blue mug, but there’s also another version that comes with a BTH clock! And yes, this is an official item, not that generic “Picture Disc Clock”. If you are really interested in purchasing either version, they sell them along with other mega-rare items at www.eil.com
