POLL RESULT: Which Cranberries tracks would you like to hear with a new orchestra arrangement?

August 27, 2016  |  6 Comments  |  by Camille  |  The Cranberries

Since we were quite excited about the confirmation that The Cranberries were/had been working on a “Greatest Hits” album with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, we asked fans to pick 15 songs they’d like to hear with a new orchestra arrangement so as to get a preview of what this album would ideally look like for them.

Vote is now over and here’s the interesting result of the poll that received a little more than 100 votes :

First surprise comes from the song who got the highest number of votes, you’d think it would be Zombie, Linger or Ode to My Family but it’s not: DAFFODIL LAMENT is the one track fans really want to see on this album, followed by three hits: Zombie, Dreams and Ode to My Family.

Only one song from the band’s last album Roses made it through the first 15 songs: Conduct, which ends up in the excellent fifth position, followed by the classics Promises, Linger, Ridiculous Thoughts, When You’re Gone and Animal Instinct.

Much to our delight, the eleventh position is held by So Cold In Ireland which we really hope the band will not forget to include on the album.

Apart from Shattered, in twelfth position, the following songs chosen by fans are all issued from first three albums: Put Me Down, Empty, Electric Blue and Twenty One all received 30 votes.

So if the album was to feature 15 songs or so, here’s what hardcore fans would like it to sound like:

GREATEST HITS ALBUM IDEAL TRACKLIST WITH THE ICO

Daffodil Lament
Zombie
Dreams
Ode To My Family
Conduct
Promises
Linger
Ridiculous Thoughts
When You’re Gone
Animal Instinct
So Cold In Ireland
Shattered
Put Me Down
Empty
Electric Blue
Twenty One

Pushing the experience a little further to see what a 20 tracks or so setlist would look like if the band was to perform their greatest hits live with the Irish Chamber Orchestra:

Songs in 17th, 18th and 19th position turn out to be the very awesome Dreaming My Dreams, Hollywood and No Need to Argue.

20th position is held by three tracks that received 23 votes: Astral Projections, Not Sorry and Sunday

To sum up, here’s what a Greatest Hits live with the Irish Chamber Orchestra 22 tracks setlist would ideally look like for fans:

GREATEST HITS LIVE IDEAL SETLIST WITH THE ICO

Daffodil Lament
Zombie
Dreams
Ode To My Family
Conduct
Promises
Linger
Ridiculous Thoughts
When You’re Gone
Animal Instinct
So Cold In Ireland
Shattered
Put Me Down
Empty
Electric Blue
Twenty One
Dreaming My Dreams
Hollywood
No Need To Argue
Astral Projections
Not Sorry
Sunday

Fans may note that no song from Wake Up And Smell The Coffee ended up in the 20-or-so tracks chosen by the fans, whereas this top includes:
– 9 songs from the No Need to Argue era
– 5 songs from Everybody Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We
– 3 songs from To The Faithfull Departed
– 3 songs from Bury The Hatchet
– 2 songs from Roses

Let’s remember fans did not pick their favorite songs here but those they would most like to hear with a new orchestra arrangement. Apart from the biggest hits, slow songs were clearly privileged – which is not too much of a surprise.

  1. Tip

They will never release something different from single songs. They are so predictabke after 15 years or so where they tend to repeat themselfs till the most boring setlist they can.

So the tracklist will surely be at 99% like this:

    1) Zombie
    2) Linger
    3) Wanted
    4) Just my imagination
    5) Shattered
    6) Ode to my family
    7) Dreams
    8) Roses
    9) Animal Instinct
    10) When you’re gone
    11) Free To Decide
    12) Waltsing Back
    13) Empty
    14) Salvation or Ridicolous Thoughts

So these is the most probable tracklist wich really would left me with a *yawn* on mu face. Any non single songs they put will increase my excitment on and on but expections as always are LOW.

Quite agree with Tip. If at least they could add one or two songs which are not single songs it would be great. I don’t know imagine if they add daffodil and so cold this could be cool.

Yeah, when they have a show somewhere or when something “new” is being released, I don’t even bother to look up the setlist anymore. I love The Cranberries, they have always been my favourite band, and they probably always will be (on paper, that is, because to be honest I have moved on to bands that are actually sparkling with LIFE). But I have never seen a band that is SO. EFFIN’. JADED.

It already started ten years ago when all they/she ever released anymore was Linger. I’ve almost developed a grudge towards the song. Just STOP playing ten different versions of Linger already for Christ’s sakes.

I’m sorry. It just gets to me. XD

Wait another year..they will nit release anything till very end of 2017!

    Good luck!
