- MTV Europe Music Awards commonly abbreviated EMAs, is a show to honor artists and music in pop culture. Originally conceived as an European alternative to the VMAs (MTV Video Music Awards) hosted in the United States. Just like the U.S. show, the European ceremony features performances by prominent artists and the presentation of the awards. A jury of 700 people in the music industry picked 5 candidates in each of 8 categories. From them, MTV viewers across Europe picked the winners.
