LYRICS

Through broken trees and autumn leaves
I drag myself along to be with you
Down to the sea to see you, I’m sliding
My open arms, your glassy eyes
I take you in my touch as always
Hold me tonight contagious
You’re trembling
I heard you sigh, this is all my fault
I hear you say, this is all my fault

Don’t you ever feel helpless, hopeless things
And you never need sorrys of nothing yeah
May you never be scared or need to be
Falling at my knees and grabbing at your feet
I couldn’t find a way to make you see that
You may never feel fears or these foolish things
Don’t you ever say sorry for nothing yeah
May you never be scared or need to be
Pulling at your sleeve and chattering your teeth
I hope I couldn’t find the words to bear this
I hope that you won’t
I hope that you won’t feel deceived

Falling down into it, are you falling down into it

With broken lips and cracking voice
May I ask you not to speak or look at me now
Just hold me tonight, contagious, I’m trembling
I drink my drinks in dirty cups
My stomach’s full of words I can’t spit out
Hold me tonight contagious, God help me
I heard you say this is all my fault
Please stay away, this is all my fault

Don’t you ever feel helpless, hopeless things
And you never need sorrys for nothing yeah
You will never be scared or need to be
Falling at my knees and grabbing at your feet
I couldn’t find a way to make you see that

Don’t you feel fears or your foolish things
You may never be scared or need to be
And I never seek sorrys for some things
Grabbing at your sleeves and pulling at your teeth
I couldn’t find the words to help you bear this

NOTES

  • 1st single from the album “Mono Band”. It was released in January 2005.
  • The much anticipated project from ex-Cranberry Noel Hogan is as far from old-school Irish guitar rock as possible. After a subtle intro reminiscent of a Sea Change-era Beck, the first thing to strike the listener is that Richard Walters’ vocals are devastating, especially coupled with the dynamics of the tune, going from frail and introspective to full-on epic self-possessed heart-twisting melancholia. It’s the kind of thing you’d crave after an hour too long in the pub talking about poetry.” – Lisa Coen, Hot Press, May 2005.
  • A big influence for this track came from listening to an album by ‘Stina Nordenstam’, the album is called ‘And SHE CLOSED HER EYES’. I have always been a big fan of this album, I hadn’t heard it for ages & then when I was in the middle of recording the album I started listening to the album again. The result was Waves.” – Noel Hogan, 20 December 2005.
  • A live version of the song was recorded for the radio session on the Dan Hegarty show (RTÉ 2fm) in July 2005.
  • The song was also performed on the “Green and Live Session”
  • A live version of the song -recorded at Dolan’s in Limerick on 18 October 2005- was released as a free download on monoband.co.uk in December 2005.
