LYRICS
I di-idn’t understand the things you’re going through
I ne-ever understood, I really never knew
Carry on (carry on), carry on (carry on)
The sun will always shine
Carry on, carry on, carry on
We’ll have a glass of wine or a cigarette
La la-a la la, la la la la-a-a-a
La la-a la la, la la la la-a-a-a
Take destiny by the hand and lead it far away
Take it to another land, we will all decay
Carry on (carry on), carry on (carry on)
The sun will always shine
Carry on (carry on), carry on (carry on)
We’ll have a glass of wine or a cigarette
La la-a la la, la la la la-a-a-a
La la la la, la la la la-a-a-a

MEANING
- In November 2001 Dolores told to Hot Press that “Carry On from the new album was actually inspired by my many friends who are ill and I am just telling them to carry on. Among my friends and in my family I’ve had an awful lot of people die from cancer and such over the past ten years. That, too, is why I worry about the ozone layer. So this song is to people who are ill. Particularly those who, maybe, have a limited time to live. I’m really saying to them with all my heart: Carry On”
NOTES
- In an interview in 2002 Dolores explained how the song was recorded, “Songs like Chocolate Brown, Pretty Eyes and Carry On are recorded with the entire band playing at the same time”
