“Bury The Hatchet” available in Dolby Atmos

“Bury The Hatchet” is available in Dolby Atmos on Apple Music! Unlike EEIDI, the band or the record company never really announced it.

Many thanks to Justin Patten and Ricardo for the info and details… everything you can read below concerns interesting things and other differences they noticed regarding this new release compared to the original album.

– Immersive Mix Engineer listed is David Leonard. Encoded date: UTC 2024-04-23 20:17:32 – Tagged date: UTC 2024-10-11 16:48:53

– The album actually doesn’t show up as a Dolby Atmos release until you click into the Bury The Hatchet album page itself, where Dolby Atmos is listed in the description.

– This version doesn’t seem to be available on iTunes. If you use iTunes Match and already have the original album downloaded, playback can get a little confusing, sometimes it plays the original mix, other times the Atmos version.

– The Atmos release appears to use the demo/session versions of the tracks, while Complete Sessions contains the original album mixes.

– “You and Me” has additional backing vocals in the chorus, similar to the “do do do” parts between the verses and chorus. There are also occasional acoustic guitar strums not found in the album version.

– “Just My Imagination” is missing the electric guitar chord picking layered over the acoustic strumming that’s present on the album version.

– In “Shattered,” there’s an extra “I was” between “Shattered by your weakness” and “Shattered by your smile” compared to the final album mix.

– “Saving Grace” includes a few extra electric guitar notes in the second half of the song.

–  Slight differences in pronunciation and delivery in a few spots, particularly toward the end of “Shattered.” Other vocals, like “Desperate Andy,” sounds much closer to the album versions. As you probably all remember, Dolores originally recorded some vocals while pregnant (including “Desperate Andy”), and when she later attempted to re-record them, she couldn’t recreate the same emotional intensity because she wasn’t pregnant anymore. In some cases, the demo vocals were ultimately kept for the final album.

About a week ago the tracks leaked on YouTube, Justin who listened to both Apple Music and YouTube versions says they are the same, but Apple Music is much better quality or more immersive. Both are the “Demo” versions.

…and he concludes with the following reflections:
It’s also puzzling that the band would quietly release a new version of this album without publicizing it — whether this was intended to be a true Dolby Atmos release or a demo/session version — especially so close to the 33rd anniversary release of EEIDI. These are clearly different recordings, or at least partially different recordings, from the final album versions. The band themselves have already said they used parts of demos on the finished album. A mix that simply expands channels into Dolby Atmos does not suddenly generate new vocals, remove existing vocals, or completely add or delete instruments. I’m genuinely wondering if the record company accidentally mixed up the demo/session tapes with the final album masters.

Another Dolores O’Riordan mural by the artist Aches, this time sharing the bill with Sinéad O’Connor and Dolores Keane! “The Three Queens Of Ireland” as he says… painted last week at Hynes’ Bar in Dublin and in the same style as his awesome mural in Limerick 7 years ago.

Yesterday, Aches shared a 1-minute making of on Instagram.

This time, he used the iconic portrait of Dolores from a 2001 photo shoot by photographer Tim Roney.

Brilliant, one more time!
