The British press are many times known for their controversial “news”, and this article is no exception. In a recent issue, the prominent British music magazine Q reported that the band’s cumulative fortune now tops £60 million, or about $86 million US.
The last time the magazine made such a statement was in April 1999, when it said that Dolores’s own personal wealth was over £30 million. Dolores, in typical style, discounted the claim as “exaggerated” in the same article.
So it’s no suprise to hear the band’s official reaction. In an interview, Noel laughed at the question, “Why aren’t you living like millionaires?”. He quipped in response, “If it was true we would!” Then, after a break for laughing, “I don’t know where they get these figures from — they’re too fuzzy.”
Fergal, alongside Noel, quickly explained, “Even if it was true, it wouldn’t make a difference at the end of the day. What would you do? Sit at home and do nothing? We enjoy our lives, we enjoy making music, we enjoy making new records. The money isn’t why we started doing it, it’s just an added bonus.”
