2 new interviews with Dolores and… a bit of D.A.R.K.

March 30, 2017  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  D.A.R.K., The Cranberries

2 new interviews with Dolores appeared online this week.
First, the website Hi Res Audio Central published on March 28 an article about the forthcoming album “Something Else” and there’s a few words by Dolores O’Riordan herself. Just a glimpse as more of the interview will be coming soon, closer to the album’s release date says the author.

[it’s important to] keep it all sounding natural and real. I wanted us to do it like David Bowie did, where he would leave in the breathing and other elements in the mix that weren’t technically perfect. Whenever a production is too clean and too perfect, you lose the sense of character of both the songs and the singer.

The second interview is a phone interview given to the Colombian radio station “W Radio”.
It’s only 8:43 min. long and with all the language translations, in the end, the interview is quite short. You can hear the replay published on the internet yesterday by clicking this link or on the player below:

About the music industry which radically changed these days and her strategy:
“I don’t think I have done anything different…”

About Latino America concerts:
“I hope to come back in the next 12 months, I think it’s beautiful and the audience is always great there”

About a Colombian show with The Cranberries:
“We’ll certainly consider that, if the right offer comes in and the gig comes up we’ll be there”

About the album Something Else and the collaboration with the Irish Chamber Orchestra:
“We appeared on an American TV show called The Bachelorette and performed with a quartet and it sounded really nice, we did Linger, so myself and Noel the guitar player we decided to do an album and take all the songs with a live set and do them with a quartet”

About the song Rapture:
“I often find myself quite getting low and when you’re low it’s easy to write…”
“…I had it as a demo… recorded in the last few years, so it seemed appropriate to release it now”

About a song she likes to sing the most:
“I don’t really have a favorite, they’re all different experiences in times in my life and different years so they’re all individually precious”

Third and last thing today, Olé Koretsky published on his Instagram and Facebook accounts a new video recorded inside a cessna with the following (full of information) message:

“New song about time travel. got a few fresh ones. #cessna + #livePA vs. #scienceagrees

https://www.facebook.com/OleKoretsky/videos/10155103811063142/

Totally out of the blue, we can watch Olé, Dolores and 2 pilots inside that very small plane and, even more interesting, the soundtrack seems to be a piece of a new song by D.A.R.K.
The images were possibly recorded in Mexico last February while they were touring with The Cranberries. Please note that Olé says there’s a few fresh other songs.
After Andy Rourke recently, it’s good to hear that D.A.R.K. is always on a creative mode!!

All 2017 promo pics so far… (UPDATED 3x)

March 24, 2017  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

It all started last February 9th when Facebook user Cesar Enrique Vera (Quíque Vera now!) posted a behind-the-scenes photo of what seemed to be a photo shoot in Puerto Morelos, Mexico:

(Curiously this exact scene below still havent been published anywhere yet!)

The photo shoot was officially confirmed by Dolores on stage in Cancún.
After that, we learned the photographer was none other than ANDY EARL. As you may know, he already worked with The Crans in their glorious past. His name appears on almost all The Cranberries albums and he is responsible for some of their (very famous) promo pics over these last 25 years.

During their time in Cancún, it seems The Cranberries did a lot of different photo shoots possibly during 3 days. With the help of another Facebook user Victor M Gonzalez Becerra, who published another behind-the-scenes photo, we can date these shootings.

So here’s a recap of all the promo pics so far and some of them in HQ!!
All credits go to Andy Earl/BMG/The Cranberries.

DAY 1 (February 9, 2017)

DAY 2 (February 10, 2017)

No pics from this day surfaced yet!

DAY 3 (February 11, 2017)

UPDATE – 13 APRIL

Another promo pic appeared on the internet today to promote the show in Monaco on August 13th. This one is probably from DAY 3 as all 4 band members are wearing the exact same clothes as the sofa pics that day, just a different place.

Just like the cover of Something Else which is the same as NNTA more than 20 years after, let’s note the resemblance between this new promo pic and AYL some 10 years after!
Nice photo montage made by DO’RSpain

UPDATE – 19 APRIL

Another promo pic from DAY 1 appeared today on the Billboard website/Soul Sisters Podcast:

UPDATE – 30 APRIL

Another great HQ pic found today on DORSpain Facebook. Still from photo shoot DAY 1 and almost the cover of “Something Else”.

“Why” world premiere on BBC Radio 2 today (UPDATED)

March 21, 2017  |  15 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries announced this morning on their socials the first play of their brand new track “Why” with Jeremy Vine on BBC Radio 2 (England).
As you probably all know, “Why” leaked last Friday and there’s a good chance you already heard the song before. Anyway this is the official premiere today.

…Now the song just aired and as the website Cranberryesque perfectly reported:
“It is a radio edit (as the song clocks in at over 5 minutes) much more compact with a little more production. Most of the intro is gone and it ends with Dolores’ voice.”

Very interesting different version! (3:23)

LISTEN HERE (starts at 48:52)

UPDATE MARCH 22:
The Cranberries uploaded today the radio edit version to youtube.
On the other hand, the long version (the album version) is also available today on digital platforms.
Cranberries World updated the WHY song page with lyrics of both versions!

Bad news from French fans…

March 17, 2017  |  2 Comments  |  by Camille  |  The Cranberries

Taratata just announced The Cranberries would not perform on their show with London Grammar, Camille & Féfé next Tuesday.

Fans who had reveived their confirmation email earlier this day were just sent a new one mentionning that the band’s performance had been cancelled. No reason given! Tickets remain valid to attend tv show recording on that day though.

Let’s hope everyone’s ok and that the upcoming European tour won’t be affected as well.

New songs “The Glory, Rupture, Why” described by Dolores Herself

March 17, 2017  |  Comments Off on New songs “The Glory, Rupture, Why” described by Dolores Herself  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Two new interesting articles about the new album ‘Something Else’ were published today. One in Spanish on Jenesaispop.com and one in English on EntertainmentWeekly.com
There’s a few words in both articles about the theme of every new song. These words come from the press release issued by BMG and quoting Dolores:

-The Glory: written by O’Riordan in the Irish Chamber Orchestra’s rehearsal rooms at the University of Limerick. “I was trying to think of the fact that there is always hope, there is always a light at the end of the tunnel no matter how dark life may be. It can be difficult at times, but you have to find the light and the positive in things.”
-Rupture: a track centered around depression “about being in that black hole and finding it hard to get out of it”
-Why: “written just after my father passed away, at the most difficult time”

On the Spanish article only, more (intriguing?) quotes from Dolores:
‘Something Else’ is a nod to the title of our debut album, it’s an uncertain title. It’s not saying there’s going to be more and it’s not saying that this is a great end, either, it’s who knows if there’s going to be more. I think it relates to the first record very well. I have no idea what awaits us. It’s not the nineties anymore, that’s for sure. Nor would I want them to be. Let’s hope there’s more to come. I hope fans like what we’ve done with the songs. I guess you wonder how long your songs will live. I think ours have been very lucky.

The single ‘Why’ is expected to be released next week.
Happy St Paddy’s day!

“Why” on the radio next March 24th

March 16, 2017  |  10 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

According to an article published earlier today on the Italian website Ansa, “Why” will be the first single coming from the album “Something Else” and will make its debut on the radio on March 24.

There is no more details in the article but the information is probably true.
In their press release the band already announced the single “Why” as soon going to be available digitally without exact release date. Now we have one (at least for Italy)

Thanks to Ricardo Cesar for the information.

Also today, The Cranberries published on their Facebook account a short message to tell Linger (Acoustic Version) was now instantly available if you pre-order Something Else on iTunes.
[The song is now also available on major streaming platforms].
And to promote this, the band posted a short video with images recently recorded during their rehearsals in Limerick and featuring Linger (instrumental version) as soundtrack. How cool!

Linger (Acoustic Version) Premiere

March 14, 2017  |  12 Comments  |  by Jury  |  The Cranberries

The new version of Linger taken from the upcoming acoustic album “Something Else” recorded with The Irish Chamber Orchestra is premiering today on RollingStone.com in partnership with Vevo.
The Cranberries just posted the link a few hours ago on their socials.
A real exclusive where fans can hear for the very first time how the album is gonna sound.
So, Listen to Linger  “in new clothes” (as the band likes to say in their press-releases)

First thing to notice, this is completely new version with orchestral rendition and a new recording of Dolores’ voice. This is not the 1993 vocals, an important detail as a few fans were wondering if Dolores had gone back to studios or not for this album.
Dolores’ vocal sounds very pure and natural – no backing vocals at all! It’s like she is sitting with you in the same room. As for the lads’ accompaniment with the Irish Chamber Orchestra, it sounds very elegant and high class.

Second thing, Linger is the first song unveiled, though it does not necessary mean it is the first single. Remember the press conference in Cancun, Mexico last Frebruary where Dolores said “Why” would be the first single and a video would be filmed in Europe.
Also, the different press releases sent worldwide are announcing “Why” as a single that is soon going to be available digitally.

Is this a last minute change to privilege nostalgia and put an old classic song forward? It does look like this is the band’s choice, as shown by the artwork of Something Else. In this perspective, Linger definitely sounds like the best choice for a first single!
Anyway there’s a good chance the band will play those 2 songs next week on French TV show Taratata and during the other promo appearances. We’ll thus get to know more very soon!

Last thing to note on this great and exclusive Rolling Stones article: two brand new promo pictures were published. A sofa-pose picture -almost the same as the one on the cover of the new album- can be seen in the background of their Vevo video as well as a picture posted in the article where the band is standing on the Mexican streets. Awesome!

On a funny note, let’s last emphasize that the band updated their website, introducing “Something Else” as “Something Different”… Looks like a mistake, or maybe that was the original name before they decided to change it into Something Else.
