Dolores and Noel talk about “Zombie”

January 26, 2012  |  4 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

In an interview with Dutch website Nu.nl, Dolores and Noel talked about the success of “Zombie” in the mid-90’s.

I always kinda like harder rock bands, but then perhaps I took the band too much in that direction” told Dolores O’ Riordan.

“But at that time, Zombie was the right thing. If [‘Zombie’] was soft, it wouldn’t have that impact”
“I don’t think any of us thought it would be as big at it was” explained Hogan.

Hot Press reviews “Roses”

January 26, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

“Hot Press” published today the first review of The Cranberries upcoming album “Roses”.
And they say it’s pretty good.

Here are some excerpts:

“Long gone are the early influences of acts like The Sundays: the band have established their own trademark sound, not least via tight but tuneful band arrangements topped off with Dolores’ fine, emphatic vocals. “

“The album starts with the decidedly languorous ‘Conduct’, suggesting a renewed confidence: great bands know that you don’t always have to go for the jugular straight away.”

“But the real charmer is the presumably autobiographical ‘Waiting In Walthamstow’ in which O’Riordan’s wonderful voice is wrapped lovingly in autumnal strings. It’s a deeply affecting rocker, full of melancholy.”

“Not that it’s all perfect. ‘Losing My Mind’ fails to convince and the mainly acoustic ‘So Good’ is more filler than killer.”

“While you might question the placing of the title-track after the more strident anthems that precede it, there’s no gainsaying its enchanting folksy quality, complete with deliciously sinewy electric guitar.”

“All told then, Roses showcases a band reinvigorated by their time off – and eager to re-enter the fray with renewed determination and energy.”

New video interview at the Metalwork Studios

January 24, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

Cooking Vinyl posted a new interview with The Cranberries, which was taped during their recording session at the Metalwork Studios (Toronto, Canada).

The video features an interview with Dolores and Noel, as well as short audio clips of “Tomorrow” and “Roses”. During the interview, Dolores revealed how destiny played a role in the creation of the latter song. “I suppose that the song ‘Roses’ was the one that stood out. Noel just gave me this music last week. He sent this track like six months ago and that other one accidentally. I was sitting there […] and I thought, ‘God this is a beautiful piece of music, so different’. I rang him and said ‘Noel, the other take, why didn’t you give it to me before?'”

New French interview with Dolores and Noel

January 20, 2012  |  Comments Off on New French interview with Dolores and Noel  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

Dolores and Noel were interviewed by the RockNLive website during their promo tour in Paris. In this French interview, Dolores revealed that 23 songs were written for Roses, but only 15 tracks will be released on the album and as bonus material. Beside the 11 album tracks, we already know that “Someday” will be released on the Japanese version of Roses, while “Perfect World” and “Always” will be offered as iTunes bonuses. This means that only one other track is to be released out of the seven remaining song.

The band intends to promote the new tracks on tour and does not have any plans to record a following album to Roses yet.  They want to focus on the upcoming tour for now.

The two Cranberries members also talked about recording Roses with Stephen Street. As a joke, they said that they chose to work again with him, because he knows how to kick everyone’s butt. As for their favorite tracks of the album, Dolores chose “Roses” while Noel said to prefer “Schizophrenic Playboys”.

Asked about one of her favorite moments in her career, Dolores talked about when she wrote “Paparazzi on Mopeds” (B-side on the “Animal Instinct” CD-single).  Will the band play this song live in the upcoming tour?

The Cranberries’ return part of a 90’s nostalgia wave

January 9, 2012  |  Comments Off on The Cranberries’ return part of a 90’s nostalgia wave  |  by The Cranberries Press Archives  |  The Cranberries

According to business magazine “Fast Company”, our favorite band is back apparently to “cash in on 90’s nostalgia”… The article with a sensationalist title -which reports on a 90’s nostalgia trend in the business industry- took The Cranberries as an example of 90’s bands making a comeback after several years of inactivity (among others, Garbage and No Doubt).

Back in 2003 The Cranberries took a seven-year hiatus to raise their growing families, while pursuing side projets.

“It’s really cool, the chemistry,” Dolores told “Billboard” magazine last Fall about getting back with her old bandmates. “It’s really just right. There’s something there when we’re together that’s really good. It’s not something that money can buy. It’s not really something anyone can really emulate. It’s got to do with energy and chemistry and that kind of thing. It’s like putting on a perfect pair of shoes. It just fits.”

With the “Roses” previews released on the Australian iTunes store a few weeks ago, music listeners can notice that the band is still relevant in the 2010’s, with an updated sound on many songs of its upcoming album.

Pro-Life website tries to make O’ Riordan an anti-abortion model

January 6, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by The Cranberries Press Archives  |  Dolores O'Riordan

In an article entitled “Five Pro-Life Women Celebrities Worthy of Your Support“, pro-life website lifenews.com credits an anti-abortion statement to Dolores O’ Riordan and distorts “The Icles Melts” lyrics meaning. It looks like the author relied on some random blog to support her article.

(((((((As for “The Icicle Melts”, it is commonly known that the song is about the murder of two-year old Jamie Bulger by two minors in Liverpool, back in the early 90’s.)))))))))

Although The Cranberries’ lead singer made a comment on abortion that could be interpreted as anti-abortion back in the mid 90’s, she more recently told The Los Angeles Times in 2009 that she “prefers not to disclose how she feels”. As a matter of fact, O’ Riordan associated herself to “South Dakota”, a movie that “presents interviews with experts on those questions with opposing views about a woman’s right to choose“.

“Tomorrow” CD-single? Ja!

January 2, 2012  |  Comments Off on “Tomorrow” CD-single? Ja!  |  by The Cranberries Press Archives  |  The Cranberries

There will be a physical release of the “Tomorrow” single in Germany, according to the Vertigo Berlin/Universal Music website. The CD-single is due for release on January 27th.
No tracklist is available for the moment. Germany is one of the last territories, if not the last, not to have “Tomorrow” on digital music retailers yet.
