Universal Music Japan has announced that The Cranberries’ “Stars: The Best of The Cranberries” DVD (as “Best of Videos” is called in Japan) will be part of a November-December campaign of specially priced Limited Edition re- releases. The campaign consists of a total of 84 titles, 29 of which are Western (non-Japanese) music titles.
Although content of the “Stars” DVD will remain the same, all of the titles in the new campaign will receive small packaging changes (new stickers, etc) and a new low price. The new low-price limited editon DVDs will only be available for purchase from November 1st until December 29th. All of the titles in the campaign will have a finite number of printed copies, so once they are sold out, they will not be replaced. Other artists’ DVDs in the promotion include Björk, Eminem, Bon Jovi, Bryan Adams, Jimi Hendrix, Blink 182 and Sting.
The “Stars” DVD was first released in Japan this past March with an expensive retail price of 4,200 yen ($35 US, nearly double the US retail of $20). The new limited editon re-release (catalogue number UIBO-9006) will be marked down to 3,200 yen ($28 US).
The new Japanese version of “Stars” will release on November 1st. Zombieguide will try to have images of the new packaging as its release date nears. If there are any Japanese Cranberries fans who can help us out in locating scans and info, please email us!
