Concert organizers for the European Union’s grand “Beautiful Night” mega- concert on May 1 regretfully announced yesterday that the Dublin half of the event has been cancelled. The event in Dublin would have required closing certain streets for five days, disrupting business. There are suspicions that the event was also cancelled due to the threat of a terrorist attack. The planned simultaneous concert in Belfast (which ironically is not part of the Republic of Ireland) will go on as planned.
Previously announced artists included Dolores O’Riordan, Van Morrison, U2, Alanis Morisette, and Bob Geldof. No word yet on how the cancellation of the Dublin concert will a ect the artist lineup, if at all.
