The Cranberries postpone Sydney show

March 22, 2012  |  6 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries cancelled their show at the Enmore Theatre tonight due to illness. It is rescheduled on March 26. Unfortunately, Dolores suffered from food poisoning and was unable to perform. Here is the band message from Facebook:

Hi Guys,

We want to apologise for tonight’s last minute cancellation at the Enmore Theatre in Sydney. It was unavoidable, and we’re very sorry. Dolores is suffering from food poisoning and was unable to perform. Right up to the last minute we were hoping the show might be able to go ahead, but Dolores was just too unwell.

We know you’re all very disappointed and this has been a huge inconvenience for you. Hopefully most of you can make the re-scheduled show. Once again, we’re very, very sorry…

During their promo tour last month in Italy, the band said that this song was chosen as 2nd single.
Last Saturday, London Live 2.0 aired the live version the band performed for this show on February 21.
There is no word yet if a video will be shot nor if the song will be released as a single.

Dolores wishes good luck to reality show singer

March 19, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  Dolores O'Riordan

Dolores sent a Good Luck video to one of the female finalists of the French-Canadian reality television singing competition series Star Académie.

In the short video, Dolores invited Andréanne A. at The Cranberries’ show in Montréal on May 8th where the young singer will have a chance to meet the whole band afterwards.

Dolores “Good luck” message sent from Melbourne

Andréanne often sings The Cranberries 90’s hit single “Zombie” during her shows. The folk-oriented singer, who sang her own composition on Sunday night, did not win the women’s final.

The Cranberries chose continuity for the “Roses Tour”

March 15, 2012  |  Comments Off on The Cranberries chose continuity for the “Roses Tour”  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries started the “Roses Tour” in Auckland, New Zealand with no real surprise on the setlist. The band kept almost the same list as the one from the “Reunion Tour”, only replacing songs from “Wake Up And Smell The Coffee” and Dolores solo albums with tracks from the “Roses” album.

The band chose to play only 6 songs from their latest record: current single “Tomorrow”, next single contenders (“Raining in My Heart”, “Conduct”, “Schizophrenic Playboys”),  fan-favorite “Astral Projections” and title track “Roses”.

As for the oldies, the band stuck with the same list of songs they have offered fans on the last tours. And pretty much in the same order. This could be a special “Best of” setlist for Oceania as The Cranberries have not played there in more than 10 years.

Musical highlights of the last promo tour

March 13, 2012  |  4 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries are few days away from their first show of the Roses world tour (Auckland, March 15). Let’s take a moment to look back at some of the most memorable performances of the January/February promo tour.

“There Is A Light That Never Goes Out” (OUI FM) – Pure magic!
For their first media performance in almost a decade, The Cranberries offered listeners a cover version of this Smiths song.

“Roses” (Le Figaro: Le Live) – Simple without being simplistic
This delicate haunting song instantly became a fan favorite with this performance. Noel’s beautiful music piece was a perfect fit for Dolores’ touching lyrics.

“Tomorrow” (Late Night with Jimmy Fallon) – The US welcome back the Berries
For their big return on US television (first time in more than 10 years), the band chose to perform their current single in front of an ecstatic crowd… and show host!

“Raining in My Heart” (Soundcheck) – Sunshine for a cold February day
An heartfelt interpretation of – what could be – the band’s next single.

Tiny Desk Concert – Perfection
This whole performance is perfection. Nothing more, nothing less.

“Linger” (The Edge FM) – Three’s company
Dolores and Noel surprised us with a beautiful version of this Cranberries classic, with guest backvocals by Johanna Cranitch.

“Animal Instinct” (RTL2) – Another Classic
A nice flashback from Bury The Hatchet. It was great to hear this other Cranberries classic.

“Schizophrenic Playboys” (On Connaît la Musique – Europe 1) – Rock the house
Sadly, only one of the few times this great rock track was performed during the promo tour.
Click here to listen to the whole show.

“In Between Days” (Taratata) – New Wave Berries
The band performed another cover – this time by The Cure – during their French promo tour.  Oulala, that was goooood!

The Cranberries to perform plenty of new songs

March 10, 2012  |  6 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

In an interview on New Zealand television show Breakfast, Mike Hogan  revealed that the band plans to perform 8 or 9 new songs on the next tour.

This is great news for all the fans who can’t wait to hear more new tracks live! It is unclear if these 8 or 9 songs are all album tracks or if this number includes bonus tracks like “Stop Me”, “Perfect World”, etc…

Which ones do you think the band left behind?

Bonus track availability: every ‘rose’ has its thorns

February 28, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

Over the last days, there has been a certain amount of confusion in the fan community on how to purchase/legally get Roses bonus tracks.

Sadly not all bonuses are available for everyone to purchase, due to some restrictions on iTunes and Amazon. Plus, with the “extinction” of CD-singles, those non-album tracks are being harder and harder to get on CD releases.

Here’s a suggestion for Cooking Vinyl and the band. An EP (CD) with all bonus tracks or a Complete Session of Roses later on this year. Older-fashoners who still care for CDs -and there seems to be a lot of them in the Cranfan community- would be ecstatic.

Here’s a recap of the situation:

“Someday”
This is the only bonus to be available on CD so far, if you are willing to buy the Japanese CD edition at a 30-something dollar price.
Available on: Roses CD (Japan), Itunes Japan

“Always”
ITunes bonus track when you purchase the whole digital Roses album.
Available on: every Itunes stores… where ITunes is actually available.
*Note that unlike some Canadian CD stores say on their website, this song is NOT available on the Canadian 2-CD edition.

“Perfect World”
ITunes bonus track in some countries when you purchase the whole digital Deluxe edition of Roses.
Available on: Itunes (UK, Japan only)
*Note that unlike some Canadian CD stores say on their website, this song is NOT available on the Canadian 2-CD edition.

“Stop Me”

No bonus tracks on the Canadian 2-CD edition

February 28, 2012  |  Comments Off on No bonus tracks on the Canadian 2-CD edition  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

There is no bonus tracks on CD1 of the Canadian 2-CD edition of Roses unlike some music retailers are showing on their website.

Several Canadian websites say that “Perfect World”, “Always” and a live version of “Dreams” are included on the first CD of two, but this is incorrect. The Canadian 2-CD edition has the same track list as the international 2-CD edition.

This error might come from the descriptive sheet at Universal Canada.

As for the Canadian iTunes edition, it does include exclusive bonus “Stop Me”.

Johanna Cranitch, backup singer

February 25, 2012  |  3 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries hired a new backup singer for their upcoming tour. Meet JOHANNA CRANITCH.
This “Australian-born, Hungarian-bred, Brooklyn-based” singer made her debut performance with the band yesterday when she sang the back vocals on “Linger” at The Edge FM. Many fans were amazed to hear how great Dolores and Johanna’s voices mixed well together. In the past tours, backup vocals were performed by the band’s backup guitarist, Steve DeMarchi.

Johanna Cranitch also has her own musical project, Johanna and the Dusty Floor.

Then, they performed the song again along with “Linger” on The Edge FM. They were accompanied by a female backup singer on “Linger”. Hats off to this lady whoever she is who knew how to blend her voice perfectly to Dolores’s.

Dolores and Noel also pre-recorded a 3-song performance for CBC Radio 1’s Q yesterday. The show aired this morning.

Goodbye Italy!

February 22, 2012  |  Comments Off on Goodbye Italy!  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries left Italy today after a few days of promo in Sanremo and Milano. The band did interviews in various Milano radio stations (KISS KISS, Radio Deejay, RTL) in last days. They also recorded a segment for the London Live 2.0 TV show and an acoustic session on Virgin Radio. The London Live 2.0 episode will air this Saturday (the 25th) on RAI 2.

Next step, The Cranberries will perform on CBC radio 1’s Q on Friday in Toronto, Canada. In the meanwhile, you can watch this mini interview done by Spinner.ca (link no longer available) during last year’s Metalworks session.

And the second single will be…

It seems the “London Live 2.0” TV show supposed to be recorded today (Monday 20) was postponed & should be recorded TOMORROW MORNING at 9:00 am. For now we have no information on why it was cancelled today. Anyway The Cranberries are still planned to play 3 or 4 songs. Canadian 2-CD edition of ‘Roses’ to include bonuses?

February 18, 2012  |  Comments Off on Canadian 2-CD edition of ‘Roses’ to include bonuses?  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Canadian 2-CD edition of “Roses” might get some international attention in the fan community…
According to the Archambault.ca website, the Canadian 2-CD edition might include “Always” and “Perfect World” as bonuses as well as the live version of “Dreams” from the Madrid show. This could be the only way to get those three tracks on CD.

Note that this information has not been confirmed by any other site and that this could be a simple mix up between the CD and digital editions of Roses.

More to come soon…

The Cranberries on KCSN: “What we found is what we had lost”

February 17, 2012  |  Comments Off on The Cranberries on KCSN: “What we found is what we had lost”  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries stopped by KCSN 88.5 FM yesterday for an interview and a 4-song performance on Sky Daniels’ Afternoon Music Mix.

Interviewed by Sky Daniels, Dolores and Fergal spoke about Roses and how this album was recorded in a happy way without pressure from the music industry, compare the their two previous albums. “I think that, creatively as writers, Noel and I went to a point of just turning out stuff. We were not really writing for the love of it, because we were contractually bound. We had to deliver. […] But with this particular album [Roses], I think that what we found is what we had lost,” told Dolores. She explains that Noel and she have been sharing music ideas now and then since 2005.

Fergal also said that The Cranberries plan to dig in their older songs for the next tour. “It’s great that we have so many songs to choose from, because we can vary the set list every night […] It’s nice to keep it fresh. We’ve found in the last tour that a lot fans come to see like 4 or 5 shows. So, they don’t want to see the same songs every night.”

So, will The Cranberries dare to pic oldies like “Uncertain”, b-sides like “Paparazzi on Mopeds”, “Cordell”, and “Stop Me”, or rarely played live songs like “Yeat’s Grave” and “What’s on My Mind” in the next tour?? Fingers crossed!!

The band played acoustic versions of “Tomorrow” and “Raining in My Heart”, as well as “Linger” and “Ode to My Family”. You can listen to the interview on the 88.5 KCSN Sound Cloud page.

Listen to “Someday” on iTunes Japan

February 14, 2012  |  Comments Off on Listen to “Someday” on iTunes Japan  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

iTunes Japan is now offering a 1:29 preview clip of bonus track “Someday”.
The song, which was written before the band hiatus, is a slow rock effort with political-themed lyrics. “America is waiting for a spaceman to come back / The President is shaking, the oil is running dry,” sings O’ Riordan.

In other news, the Japanese iTunes Deluxe Edition will include “Perfect World” and “Always” as bonuses, but not “Someday” – which is released only on the standard edition.

German “Tomorrow” CD-single? ‘Nein’…

February 10, 2012  |  5 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

It looks like there will be no CD-single release of “Tomorrow” after all…
Even though Universal Germany is still listing a CD-single release of “Tomorrow” for today, no online music retailers has it. A digital 1-track single was released instead today on all major digital music retailer sites in Germany. Germany was one of the last countries to commercially release The Cranberries first single online.

The music industry has changed considerably since The Cranberries last CD-single release (“Stars”, 2002). Lesser and lesser physical copies are sold and record companies tend to not release CD-singles anymore, relying instead on the digital music market.

The problem with digital bonus tracks like the ones on iTunes is that those music files – exclusively released in some countries – are not accessible to buy for fans from other regions of the world, a situation that encourage music piracy. Plus, many music collectors prefer to have a physical copy of bonus tracks, which where previously released on CD-singles in the 90’s and early 2000’s. As a matter of fact, we can see that the passion for CD-singles is still alive, as promo singles of “Tomorrow” were sold on eBay for up to $90.

In other news, there is still no word on that mysterious radio mix of “Tomorrow” by Michael Ilbert, which was intended for the German radio stations. If any German fans heard it, let us know here!

The Cranberries in New York – Recap

February 9, 2012  |  6 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

The Cranberries ended their second day of promotion in the Big Apple tonight. Last night, the band made their first appearance on American TV since 2001 on NBC’s Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. They played a full band version of “Tomorrow” on the show, and “Dreams” as bonus content for the show’s website. Fallon, who is obviously a big fan of the group told the audience how Dolores answered him back to his “I loooove you Dolores!” during a Cranberries concert in the mid 90’s. Funny moment.

“Tomorrow” – Late Night with Jimmy Fallon

Today, The Cranberries were guests at “Soundcheck” on WNYC (radio station). Dolores and the three lads performed acoustic versions of “Raining in My Heart” and “Tomorrow” during the show, then “Zombie” as an extra for the radio station’s website. This was the first time that the band played a live version of the heartbreaking “Raining in My Heart” and there’s a video of that great moment:

Later, the band performed a session at the Rolling Stone Magazine headquarters. More details to come in the next days.

Since a short preview of “Stop Me” was put online during the recording sessions of No Baggage, the up-beat song became a fan favorite.

Dolores and Noel talk about “Zombie”

January 26, 2012  |  4 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

In an interview with Dutch website Nu.nl, Dolores and Noel talked about the success of “Zombie” in the mid-90’s.

I always kinda like harder rock bands, but then perhaps I took the band too much in that direction” told Dolores O’ Riordan.

“But at that time, Zombie was the right thing. If [‘Zombie’] was soft, it wouldn’t have that impact”
“I don’t think any of us thought it would be as big at it was” explained Hogan.

Hot Press reviews “Roses”

January 26, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

“Hot Press” published today the first review of The Cranberries upcoming album “Roses”.
And they say it’s pretty good.

Here are some excerpts:

“Long gone are the early influences of acts like The Sundays: the band have established their own trademark sound, not least via tight but tuneful band arrangements topped off with Dolores’ fine, emphatic vocals. “

“The album starts with the decidedly languorous ‘Conduct’, suggesting a renewed confidence: great bands know that you don’t always have to go for the jugular straight away.”

“But the real charmer is the presumably autobiographical ‘Waiting In Walthamstow’ in which O’Riordan’s wonderful voice is wrapped lovingly in autumnal strings. It’s a deeply affecting rocker, full of melancholy.”

“Not that it’s all perfect. ‘Losing My Mind’ fails to convince and the mainly acoustic ‘So Good’ is more filler than killer.”

“While you might question the placing of the title-track after the more strident anthems that precede it, there’s no gainsaying its enchanting folksy quality, complete with deliciously sinewy electric guitar.”

“All told then, Roses showcases a band reinvigorated by their time off – and eager to re-enter the fray with renewed determination and energy.”

New video interview at the Metalwork Studios

January 24, 2012  |  1 Comments  |  by Luc  |  The Cranberries

Cooking Vinyl posted a new interview with The Cranberries, which was taped during their recording session at the Metalwork Studios (Toronto, Canada).

The video features an interview with Dolores and Noel, as well as short audio clips of “Tomorrow” and “Roses”. During the interview, Dolores revealed how destiny played a role in the creation of the latter song. “I suppose that the song ‘Roses’ was the one that stood out. Noel just gave me this music last week. He sent this track like six months ago and that other one accidentally. I was sitting there […] and I thought, ‘God this is a beautiful piece of music, so different’. I rang him and said ‘Noel, the other take, why didn’t you give it to me before?'”
