Dolores not saying anything about her new love revelation

May 28, 2015  |  4 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

Again, Dolores is in the Irish press today and again it comes from the Irish Mirror with an article entitled “Why Dolores it always rain on me? Singer looks glum on country walk in downpour day after her new love was revealed

Probably tracked by paparazzi because of the revelations of her possible relationship with Olé Koretsky Dolores was photographed walking in the rain yesterday around the family home in Ballybricken. Asked how she felt about her new love interest Dolores answered:

I’m just having a relaxing time at my mum’s house.
I’m not doing any press.
I’m not saying anything.
Thanks love.

And that’s pretty much it. The rest of the article is no particular interest and sometimes pure speculations especially when the article is entitled “Singer looks glum on country walk…” who looks happy when walking alone in a continuous rain and deep in thought!

Dolores O’ Riordan “certainly in love with Olé”

May 27, 2015  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  D.A.R.K., Dolores O'Riordan

According to the article entitled “Cranberries singer Dolores O’Riordan bounces back from marriage split with hot young musician” published by the Irish Mirror, “Dolores is certainly very happy and in love with Olé Koretsky“. These words are said by Philip Tobin who recently met Dolores and Olé at “Kites”, a Chinese restaurant in Dublin, Ireland.

Kites Chinese restaurant

Sure this is NO OFFICIAL STATEMENT but if you followed the news about Dolores these past months it is reasonable to say it’s probably true. For sure, it will not sound very surprising to die-hard fans. Many of you already mentioned this possibility in many comments here on CW and as you know Olé Koretsky is currently working with Dolores (as well as Andy Rourke) in a new musical project called JetlagNYC. He also was spotted with her in different locations such as New York City, Los Angeles, Limerick and others… and some location can be considered very private.

Anyway this news must be taken very carefully, for example “They were singing some of their new stuff in the restaurant – it sounds amazing”. Even if possible it’s quite surprising… or Philip Tobin possibly did not recognize some old or cover songs but if he is right what a night and what a lucky man he is!

Dolores spotted by fans on social networks. Recap!

May 21, 2015  |  Comments Off on Dolores spotted by fans on social networks. Recap!  |  by Axl  |  D.A.R.K., Dolores O'Riordan

Here is a little recap of the photos/selfies with Dolores made by fans in the past months. Those pics are usually reTweeted/reFacebooked on CW’s Twitter and Facebook accounts and do not appear all the time on the website here at the very minute. This post is to repair the fault as some of you don’t use social networks while others may simply have missed a photo.

As you probably all know, news about Dolores (and The Cranberries) have always been quite rare so thanks to those bloody socials, now fans have a better idea about the recent locations and activities of their favorite stars more easily than in the past.

And a big thank you to all the people/fans who shared their precious moments to the world.

Dolores spotted at Treyvaud’s Restaurant in Killarney

May 7, 2015  |  Comments Off on Dolores spotted at Treyvaud’s Restaurant in Killarney  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Dolores was spotted today at Treyvaud’s Restaurant, 62 High Street, in Killarney, Ireland. Is this a coincidence? BWWTV was mentioning yesterday that the Bachelorette dates would attend a private Cranberries concert and then move on to Killarney. Looks very much like the private concert took place/is taking place these days.

As a matter of fact, the restaurant owner first posted a simple message on Facebook

…and about an hour later, still on Facebook, posted a photo with Dolores and the message “Hanging with Dolores!!

The Cranberries appearing in the next season of “The Bachelorette” (UPDATED)

May 6, 2015  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Sort of breaking news today as several articles in the medias mention The Cranberries playing a private concert in the new season of the TV show “The Bachelorette” USA version. Season 11 premieres next May 18th on ABC.

Travelling across the Atlantic to Ireland, the dates are filled with explosive revelations and drama, as the group journeys to Dublin and a stop at the magnificent Christ Church Cathedral. The Bachelorette and one lucky man are treated to a private concert by the popular rock group The Cranberries. Then their Irish excursion moves on to Killarney with a romantic trip to the Blarney Castle to kiss the Blarney Stone.

It looks like all the episodes are now recorded so if true The Cranberries reformed at least for one day. Hope we can have more details soon as it would be the first show of the band in about 2 years and a half.
This is not the first time The Cranberries or Dolores solo appear on TV/Movies (Charmed, Click…) and it is always nice to see them in projects like this.

“No Need To Argue” to be reissued on 180g vinyl on July 17th

April 23, 2015  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Title says it all…
Good news for collectors and people who still don’t have “No Need To Argue” on vinyl, the masterpiece album will be reissued on Plain Label on July 17, 2015 and can be pre-ordered online right now for $23.78 on runtshop.com

runtshop.com

The news directly came from Runt on Facebook last April 9th:

For now The Cranberries or their management made no official statement, so it is too soon to know if the LP will be available anywhere else but according to the Runtshop pre-order page the offer doesn’t look exclusive nor limited edition.

This reissue might directly be linked to the partnership recently signed by Dolores and Noel with Warner/Chappell Music. If that is the case we could expect some more reissues in the coming months/years.

UPDATE – MAY 12

EARLIER THAN EXPECTED THE LP IS NOW IN STOCK.

Angelo Badalamenti: “Dolores and I are working on her album”

April 15, 2015  |  5 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

Thanks to Sara from Cranberries Italia for searching the web and finding this interview of the composer Angelo Badalamenti published on spiritandfleshmag.com
It’s a long interview about David Lynch, movies, Angelo’s musical career and other things.

Concerning Dolores there’s only one line but what a line:

Dolores O’Riordan from The Cranberries and I are working on her album;
she’s a wonderful lyricist with an edge to her voice.

The Cranberries’ songwriters sign with Warner/Chappell Music

April 2, 2015  |  4 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

According to the article entitled “Cranberries’ songwriters sign with Warner/Chappell Music” published on musicweek.com, Dolores and Noel signed a publishing partnership with Warner/Chappell Music UK covering their share of the band’s body of work 1993-2004 from “Everyboby Else Is Doing It So Why Can’t We?” to “Wake Up And Smell The Coffee”.

Richard Manners, Managing director of Warner Chappell UK says:

I am delighted Warner/Chappell will provide a home for the works of Dolores and Noel, and I am especially happy to be reunited with their amazing music having signed the band’s original publishing deal at the start of their career. This is a distinctive catalogue, melodically and lyrically, and their huge international success has given it a truly global reach. They continue to be popular and highly respected musicians today, and we look forward to working with them and their management team to create new opportunities for their outstanding compositions and build on their already impressive career.

This is pretty good news which proves that Dolores and Noel still can agree about The Cranberries. Up to now, nobody has heard again of the court action launched by Dolores against Noel a year and a half ago so it looks like things are getting better between them.

Also, let’s emphasize that in this article, P.J. O’Riordan (Dolores’ brother) is mentioned as Dolores’ manager.

The Cranberries #36 in what British people love the most in Ireland

March 10, 2015  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

No, Guinness is not what British people love the most in Ireland, Irish accent is!
Guinness “only” is number 2.

The Cranberries are number 36 which 25 years after their debut is not that bad. By comparison U2 is #16, Sinead O’Connor #17 (both recently released an album) Thin Lizzy #22 and The Pogues #10 amongst many other ultimate Irish legends.

The list of the 50 greatest Irish things was made according to a survey which took into account the opinions of more than 2000 people in the UK.

No doubt all of you readers/fans would have placed The Cranberries as reason #1 to love and visit Ireland.

Dolores O’ Riordan new live DVD (bootleg!) recorded in Basel at AVO Sessions

February 23, 2015  |  Comments Off on Dolores O’ Riordan new live DVD (bootleg!) recorded in Basel at AVO Sessions  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

Danila Aranha shared a couple of days ago on the Facebook page of The Cranberries Brasil a very interesting photo of a new Dolores O’ Riordan bootleg DVD sold officially in store in Salvador by the shop Livraria Cultura.

AVO Session – bootleg DVD

Recorded in Basel, Switzerland on november 15, 2007 during the second European leg of the “Are You Listening Tour”, this show is very familiar to the fans as back in the days it was broadcast on TV in Switzerland and was immediately uploaded on YouTube and still can be easily watched these days on the internet.

Even if the picture of Danila totally makes illusion, this DVD is surely a bootleg item as there are very few chances that, almost 8 years after the performance without any official release, this shop in Salvador has the legal rights to sell it. So pay attention and know what you’re buying if you plan to order it. This dvd probably is reserved to die-hard fans and collectors and not addressed to the general public as production quality may be… uncertain!

DVD is NTSC, possibly factory pressed and not cheap homemade DVD-R.
As it probably should not have ended in that kind of store where people automatically think there are only official products on sale, its selling lifetime can be very limited so if you are a real collector make it fast before it becomes unavailable!

February 23, 2015  |  9 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

The musician/composer Eric Alexandrakis posted on Instagram today a photo in studio with a quite interesting comment:

Quite the busy week…
Steve did his bits for a new Electrons song called “You Got What You Wanted”, featuring Dolores O’Riordan on vocals.

No more explanations for now. This is possibly a second song featuring Dolores unless it is the one called La Fine” with a new title… Time will tell

Jetlag (NYC) planning to go on the road in the summer

January 30, 2015  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  D.A.R.K.

Before his DJ set in Mexico City, Andy Rourke gave an interview to Raúl Arce for WARP. Of course the interview is published in Spanish, anyway Google Translation works pretty well. And there’s one thing to note: his musical project with Dolores and Olé (Jetlag) is going well and the band is planning on going on tour this summer.

For those who do not speak Spanish, here is a translation found on DO’RSpain Facebook, thanks to them:

“I’m working with Dolores at the moment in a project called Jetlag. She was very sure that she wanted to be in a new band, a new adventure. So I sent her some songs and she loved them. She’s been singing them all. We’re planning to go on the road in the summer”

Today January 30th, the former bass player of The Smiths just ended his “DJ Tour”. He was touring North America all January and Mexico City was the last show as you can see on the ad below:

Dolores O’ Riordan and Olé Koretsky apparently travelled with him to Los Angeles, San Francisco and Chicago. Below a photo with Dolores in Chicago at The Eastroom posted by one of their friends on Facebook.

Noel Hogan: New self-produced project for release early next year

January 15, 2015  |  3 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Noel Hogan

Noel Hogan recently gave an interview published online on audient.com
Not necessarily well-known to the general public, Audient is a company producing professional audio equipment qualified by Noel as “perfect for me”.

In this interview Noel talks about his personal equipment related to Audient and gives a clue on his recent work:

New material with vocals that I’ve been working on for a few years is coming together now. We don’t have a title yet, but it’s due for release early next year

The next few months will see me working from my home studio, but after that it will be a combination of here and working in France. The next project is in the early stages. It combines the talents of bands both in France and Ireland to see what the end result brings. This is a big project that will take up most of the year.

Depending on when the interview was given the “early next year” Noel is talking about probably is early 2015 which means soon (or is it early 2016?).

Dolores 3rd solo album: 6 tracks done with Marco Mendoza so far

December 5, 2014  |  Comments Off on Dolores 3rd solo album: 6 tracks done with Marco Mendoza so far  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

2 days ago the webzine 100% rock magazine published the complete interview Marco Mendoza gave in november and that first appeared in edited form in X-Press Magazine’s December 2 issue. X-Press Magazine is one of the most-circulated free street presses in Australia.

xpressmag.com.au

On the edited version the few words about Dolores were skipped (possibly because Marco was coming to Australia to play concerts with his band The Dead Daisies which has nothing to do with Dolores) but on the long & online version his words concerning Dolores O’ Riordan are revealed. Nothing really new that we didn’t know before but one thing: 6 tracks done in studio so far and more to come after his Australian concerts. Obviously this was before Dolores was arrested, now it will/should be after after!

Dolores O’Riordan from The Cranberries called me from New York, and so I flew up there. We were at the Electric Lady studios recording, we did six tracks.

I got home, and I’m going to continue that after I’m done with The Daisies, she’s trying to get an album together for a solo project. This’ll be my third album with her.

Your chance to live in a piece of Irish Rock History

December 1, 2014  |  Comments Off on Your chance to live in a piece of Irish Rock History  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

Almost 2 years ago the Legendary Windmill Lane Studios in Dublin had issued an appeal to musicians who have worked there to collect their master tapes or else they’ll be destroyed. Among them The Cranberries. Most of fans know this is the studio where the band recorded some of their best albums including the debut Everybody Else Is Doing It, So Why Can’t We?
Until today nobody knows if members of The Cranberries rescued their master tapes or not. Let’s hope yes as these recordings really are MASTERPIECE.

Today the article entitled “Your chance to live in a piece of Irish rock history for just €200k” published by herald.ie reports that the famous Dublin recording studio is to be sold at auction with a reserve at €170,000/200,000.

Wanna live where artists like The Cranberries, U2, The Police and Sting, The Waterboys, Mary Black and many more recorded some of their best songs, today is your chance. Anyone interested?

According to the article entitled “Cranberries singer DOR splits from husband of 20 years – as details of airplane assault are revealed” published tonight by Goss.ie, Dolores’ mother Eileen has given an in-depth interview in tomorrow’s Limerick Leader where she reveals the singer’s marriage is over.

This might explain the behavior of Dolores these last days/weeks.

Some fans noticed she appeared without her marriage ring in recent photos suggesting there might be problems in her marriage… well, it seems confirmed now.

Dolores jamming in studio today with… Marco Mendoza

October 30, 2014  |  Comments Off on Dolores jamming in studio today with… Marco Mendoza  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

A new photo of Dolores O’ Riordan in New York City appeared on Instagram today. This time it wasn’t posted by a random fan but a famous professional concert photographer named Katarina Benzova who’s notably working with Guns N’ Roses, the rock band who led her to get known (especially as she’s dating Richard Fortus one of the guitarists of the band).

It seems that this time Dolores stopped for a little jam in the studio with the rock band “The Dead Daisies” made of Marco Mendoza, Jon Stevens, Richard Fortus, Dizzy Reed and more. Right now they are in NYC rehearsing for their upcoming shows. According to Katarina’s instagram, the photo was taken at SIR Studios on 25th Street in New York City.

Jon Stevens, Dolores O’ Riordan, Marco Mendoza – Photo: Katarina Benzova

It is not too surprising to finally find a photo of Dolores taken by Katarina Benzova as she’s been on tour a lot with Marco Mendoza recently, with Thin Lizzy for instance, and as you might remember Marco used to collaborate with Dolores on her first solo album and tour. He is said to be a very good friend of the Burtons.

On Katarina’s photo, everyone will notice Dolores wearing that kind of medieval hat which was part of the costume she already wore in the streets of NYC a few days ago. Remember? How cool is that!

A prolific “The Hand” much to our delight

October 22, 2014  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Other News

If you know the work of The Hand you probably already know that he is a very prolific cartoonist. As you can judge on his Facebook and official website he sketched a lot of international and local (Italian) celebrities with his own unique style.
These last months he drew a lot of new portraits of our favorite Dolores. CW already wrote about that last august… but The Hand continued to draw of lot more after that.

published on September 6, 2014

One by one on our Facebook we shared his works but that is something we don’t really like to do as many people don’t have, don’t like or simply don’t want Facebook. For all those people, here’s a summary of his work:

published yesterday, Oct. 21

published on Oct.17

As you can see the man was bloody inspired by the pictures of Dolores these last couple of weeks, who would not be?

For the following drawing he even published a short video and colored versions:

published on Sept.27

“sketching Dolores O’Riordan – Sept.27”

published on Sept.27

published on Oct.14

published on Sept.23

He also drew 2 classic poses directly inspired by the videoclips Zombie & Promises.

published on Aug.17

published on Oct.19

If you like his work, some of his drawings are on sale by the artist directly. More details can be found on his website, don’t hesitate to contact him, he is a nice guy!

“The Pigtown Fling” next saturday’s concert now SOLD OUT

September 18, 2014  |  Comments Off on “The Pigtown Fling” next saturday’s concert now SOLD OUT  |  by Axl  |  Noel Hogan

The committee of “The Pigtown Fling” announced yesterday on their Facebook that “The Pigtown Fling” gig coming this Saturday has now completely sold out. The album on CD is ready and will be given for free at the venue. All the artists and team look forward to seeing you this Saturday (september 20) at the Crescent Hall in Limerick, Ireland. Doors open at 7.30 PM with the gig starting at 8:00 PM sharp.

Things are definitely going really well for this musical project. Two days ago Noel wrote on his Tumblr account it was great to be sitting at home listening to one of the tracks on the Radio. There were a lot of media appearances these last weeks in the press, radio and even on Irish TV where “The launch of the Pigtown Fling” aired this evening (Sept 17) on Sky191.

No doubt there will be more media appearances after the show. So who’s going? If you are, don’t hesitate to send us live reports and/or photos of the show, poster, setlist, crowd, venue, ticket, the limited edition CD or anything else that you can judge interesting it’s up to you, we may publish that here.

In the meantime Noel is appearing this coming weekend in the Limerick Post Newspaper (to be published on September 20) and in 2 different categories. You can already read the online edition by clicking this link or the ePaper edition (pages 55 and 86) by clicking this other link.

Inauguration of the Polish Presidency 2011 – HD VIDEO

September 11, 2014  |  7 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

A year and a half ago, one of our readers, Piotr from Poland, sent us the HD 1080 video of Dolores performing for the “Inauguration of the Polish Presidency” on July 1, 2011 recorded on TVP HD. The video was uploaded in 4 parts and for some reason one of them was corrupted and we never succeeded to watch it.

This week we recontacted Piotr and he agreed to re-send/re-upload it. He also agreed to share it with the world and gave us permission to spread his direct link so here we go. It is the complete performance, it is about 410 MB and it really is worth it, take a look at the 2 screen caps below if you have any doubts.
Enjoy!

This special performance with the symphonic orchestra really is one of a kind and this is maybe the first time most of us will see it in HD. If like us you like this video maybe take a minute to thank Piotr by leaving a word (in the “leave a reply” below) or just a thank you and in Polish please… or not!

Another interview, this time with the famous cartoonist The Hand, was published on Cranberriesitalia.it. Obviously it is in Italian but “Google Translation” works pretty well on this one!

Well known in the world of The Cranberries, The Hand recently drew new portraits of The Cranberries and Dolores as reported here. He also just posted on Facebook a brand new drawing for Dolores’ birthday:

“The Pigtown Fling” officially launched… and going well!

September 5, 2014  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Noel Hogan

Last Tuesday, September 2nd, was the official launch of “The Pigtown Fling”, a major musical project to develop a sustainable music industry in Limerick.
To celebrate this, a special event was organized at “The Blind Pig”, a bar restaurant located on Thomas Street in Limerick. For obvious reason this could not happen anywhere else!

The chef Pig at the bar

An invitation was posted a few days before the event on The Pigtown Fling Facebook and everyone was welcome for a lunchtime:

Invitation

Some of the artists were there and things were quite simple: some food, drinks, a mic on its stand and a promotional poster for background. Noel Hogan (producer) as well as John Greenwood (creator and director) and Pr. Eoin Devereux spoke to the guests to explain what the concept of this album was all about. The rest of the time seemed like a long and pleasant meet and greet.

Below, some of the photos of the event. Some of you will discover Noel’s new look (well… not so new now), cool beard isn’t it. And there are 25 more photos posted on The Pigtown Fling Facebook.

Noel Hogan, John Greenwood, Pr. Eoin Devereux

About the music itself, to this day we can discover 4 songs out of 17 that will appear on the coming CD. On August, 2 songs have officially surfaced “In My House” and “Hide & Creep”. Those 2 tunes airplayed on a few Irish radio (ClareFM, TippFM, 8 Radio…) and have been posted on the internet as well. (Soundcloud links no longer available)

The reaction so far has been positive. Since then a 3rd song called “Peppermint Love” and a 4th song called “February 13th” were posted last week and yesterday (respectively) on the internet on John Greenwood’s Soundcloud . (links no longer available)
All these 4 samples are gathered on a Promo CD whose Noel posted a picture on Tumblr on Sept. 2nd:

Media coverage seems quite good too even if quite local for now. Here are 2 different articles in the Limerick Leader, one published on August 30th entitled “Sounds of The Pigtown Fling” (a story according to Noel) and the other one published today Sept. 5th entitled “Musical legacy project brings together 47 great performers” (a report about the launch event at The Blind Pig bar).

Dont’ forget this “over a year of workshops project” will culminate in a showcase gig at Crescent Hall in Limerick on September 20th.

Vocals going down tomorrow for Dolores on “La Fine”

August 25, 2014  |  Comments Off on Vocals going down tomorrow for Dolores on “La Fine”  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

As often these last weeks, news about Dolores come from the composer/musician Eric Alexandrakis who informs us on his Facebook that Dolores should record some vocals tomorrow on an “Electrons” track he wrote called “La Fine”. “Electrons” probably is the name of the project or band (?) Good news.

@DolORiordan vox going down tomorrow on an Electrons track I wrote called “La Fine”. It’s going to be fantastico, e molto impressionante.

“Ice Bucket Challenge” continues, now The Sage Café feat. Mike

This time it is Mike Hogan’s turn to appear on an “Ice Bucket Challenge” video. It was posted yesterday on The Sage Café’s Facebook. Mike is one of the guys pouring the buckets of ice water on others (hey, he is the boss after all)… and seems to enjoy it.

Funny indeed, but this video is not the direct response to Noel challenging him. So we might have another video with Mike very soon (or not!) and this time he might not enjoy it as much as he just did. Stay tuned.

Noel Hogan accepts the “Ice Bucket Challenge”

August 23, 2014  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Other News

This summer if you’re living on the same planet as us, you probably noticed tons of videos of celebrities or friends pouring a bucket of ice water on their head. This is called the ‘Ice Bucket Challenge” and Noel just agreed to do it and posted the video on his Tumblr. Have a look his video is quite funny… especially the way his family reacts.

http://noelhogan2.tumblr.com/post/95492661202

The Ice Bucket Challenge spread over the internet these last months and kept growing and growing this summer. It all started from an athlete suffering from a degenerative disease combined with a good dose of self-deprecating media from the celebrities. Bill Gates even did it! The principle is based on having more and more videos all over medias/internet of people doing it to get funds for the ALS association. ALS is for amyotrophic lateral sclerosis.

Those who are nominated have 24 hours to do it and can challenge 3 people of their choice to do the same. If they don’t accept they have to donate $100 to the association. It appears that most of celebrities are doing both. On this day ALS raised more than 60 million dollars.

In turns out that Noel has nominated 3 people of his choice and an interesting name for us, Cranfans, surfaced: Mike Hogan

So who’s gonna challenge Dolores? Noel didn’t… Mike maybe!
Even if there is not much chances that Dolores will do it as she tends to avoid the Internet and everything that revolves around it, it may reach her one way or another. Mike may nominate Russell, Russell may nominate Don and Don… well, we’ll see!
Good cause and good fun.

“Limerick City of Culture 2014” continues…

August 19, 2014  |  1 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

Noel Hogan has been working hard for the city of Limerick this year with different musical projects like “The Pigtown Fling” album & concert as well as “The Music Bus”. Now it is Dolores’ turn to do something…again!

After playing live with the Irish Chamber Orchestra for the grand opening concert on New Year’s Eve, a new article entitled “Dolores O’Riordan adds to Limerick’s Limericks walking tour” published by Hot Press today informs us that she recently joined the list of celebrities who have written a “Limerick writing”.

Here is her poem/thought/word about her hometown:

In this here town my life begun,
I left this place when I was young
To seek my fortune, say my say,
I found myself so far away
I made my mark, life moved on, this is the town that made me strong

Anyone can participate, not only celebrities!
Apparently the contest, because it appears to be a contest, already received a huge volume of entries. Winners will be featured on the upcoming virtual walking tour of the city. So if you think you have something to say about Limerick and would like to join in, you can still send your words until August 25th. Dolores probably already won (or more probably she is out of competition) and will be featured.

3 new drawings of Dolores/T.C. by the one and only The Hand

August 13, 2014  |  3 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

If you are a long time Cranberries fan you know The Hand FOR SURE. He is possibly the best cartoonist who has ever drawn The Cranberries. These last couple of days he published on Facebook 3 new drawings of Dolores and the band. Everyone may recognize different periods in time:

This first drawing clearly is inspired by Dolores’ last look on “The Voice of Ireland” TV show, a very 1993 look with hair partially shaved and rings on the ears. This one was published today, August 13th.

This second drawing seems to be a mix between past and present. Dolores still has the recent look of “The Voice of Ireland” while her pose reminds of us of an old picture of her. Published on August 9th.

This one belongs to the old times with the whole band and the legendary sofa. Published on August 4th.

Just for fun, let’s pay attention to this fourth drawing which does NOT represent any band members as it is just two “hipster” runners according to The Hand, but the look of these guys is very close to that of Noel Hogan these days, don’t you think so? Published on August 6th.

Brilliant!
The Hand is still a very talented five star artist.

Dolores definitely not coming back to “The Voice of Ireland”

August 7, 2014  |  3 Comments  |  by Axl  |  The Voice of Ireland

According to the article entitled “The Voice could have new a line-up of coaches with none yet signed up for new series” published by the Irish Mirror yesterday, Dolores O’ Riordan is definitely not coming back to the TV show “The Voice of Ireland”.

Well, even if we already had clues about it and even if it still hasn’t been officially confirmed yet, it seems quite clear that Dolores is not returning for another season next year unless producers would like to spring a surprise… with those kind of TV shows you never know!

2 rare and unreleased new pictures

August 4, 2014  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan, The Cranberries

Fanberries just added 2 great rare pictures on Facebook, thanks to him for these 2 gems!
First one was taken in Cork Ireland at Sir Henry’s on June 1, 1991 and originally appeared online on Dailyedge.ie’s website inside an article about the legendary venue and some of its memorabilia. It is unclear whether this show is one of the last under the name The Cranberry Saw Us or one of the first (maybe the first) under the name The Cranberry’s.

Dolores and Fergal at Sir Henry’s – June 1, 1991

The second picture is quite recent in comparison. This is not really a picture as it is usually understood but one from the official guestbook of the concert’s venue (Auditorio Nacional) signed by Dolores on September 2, 2007 in Ciudad de México (Mexico City).

Official guestbook – Ciudad de México – Sept.2, 2007

We don’t see that kind of information too often as generally it is not supposed to be public. For example another guestbook we have here on CW comes from the very last show (to this day) of The Cranberries and is signed by all 4 band members.

The idea behind “The Pigtown Fling” – Explanations

August 4, 2014  |  Comments Off on The idea behind “The Pigtown Fling” – Explanations  |  by Axl  |  Noel Hogan

For those of you – and there is a lot – who are still wondering what exactly is hidden behind this weird name/project “The Pigtown Fling”, Noel Hogan and John Greenwood respectively producer and creative director of this big collaborative musical project recently recorded a small video where they clearly explain what it’s all about.

If you are following Noel on Tumblr (http://noelhogan2.tumblr.com) you may have seen these last months a lot of photos of musicians working with him in studio very conscientiously. Photos were published raw without real comments or larger explanations. If you were not paying attention closely you probably just understood at best that he was doing some music for his hometown on the occasion of the Limerick 2014 city of culture. So if you recognize yourself in these last few words or if you never heard about this project at all, then this video is made for you. It’s a kind of EPK published on Vimeo by John Samuel Greenwood, creator and director of TPF project. Just focus 4 minutes and all will be clearer.

The next step is a presentation of the 18 tracks live on stage on September 20, 2014 in Limerick.

As some of you may have noticed, last week the most important international and unofficial website from the late 90’s and 2000’s about The Cranberries went definitely offline.

As announced in May by its webmaster Alex Kraus, the website was supposed to go offline early june but for some reason had an extended time until mid-July. Even if the site officially closed in the fall of 2007 it stayed online until last week, enabling fans to keep on checking old pages. Let’s thus hope everyone had enough time to save those precious pages for personal archive or later use.

Anyway now it is gone, so… rest in peace ZG and thank you Alex for all those great years.
Now it’s part of History in The Cranberries world.

A quick report of “The Voice of Ireland” semi-final last weekend

April 23, 2014  |  Comments Off on A quick report of “The Voice of Ireland” semi-final last weekend  |  by Axl  |  The Voice of Ireland

Last weekend some members of the CW team went to “The Voice of Ireland” semi final.
It was quite an interesting show even if Dolores didn’t perform with her team as all other coaches did on the previous shows. Of course, Kellie being the only one left in the team, it would have been reduced to duet instead of a team performance, but we were secretly hoping that the 2 girls would perform “Zombie” together, which could have been quite enjoyable… well, it didn’t happen and it seems it won’t be happening either next Sunday as some unofficial sources mentioned Dolores should not be performing AT ALL on the show.

As a member of the audience, we can tell that the show was very pleasant to watch, Dolores appeared to be in a great mood and had a killer new look including great new haircut: she shaved her hair on the sides and had red highlights pretty much everywhere. She also had new rings in her ears, which made her look very rock and roll like in 1993. Great great great!!!
She arrived quite late at the Helix as she was suffering of pleurisy (as you probably noticed on TV) but it didn’t affect her good spirit as she seemed quite happy to be here and stole the show like she usually does. Who didn’t like her “I do what I want” pose during a big part of the show? She even clowned around off-camera during commercial breaks and talked to many members of the audience.

Dolores and Bressie clowning around during commercials

Dolores actively supported Kellie all along the show and was the only coach who got up to hug her candidate and wish her good luck before her performance. She also wore a crown of flowers at some point to show her some support, which apparently worked well.
Good karma!

Similarly to the previous season of “The Voice of Ireland”, the last 4 candidates should be meeting their coach in their hometown the week before the final. It seems that this special film report already took place last Monday with Kellie’s family and friends and it should be broadcast during the show next Sunday. It had to be done just before Dolores leaves Ireland to go to New York City where she should be playing a concert tonight with Zucchero.

Last but not least, good luck to Kellie.
The final round shouldn’t be easy. Indeed, it seemed quite clear at The Helix that the fight would be tough against Brendan… unless the under the radar girl Laura May or even the very outsider rocker Jamie steal the crown!

A crown made of roses to support Kellie

Live from Limerick City of Culture’s New Year Eve

Hi there,
Here is what the NYE concert stage looks like. Pretty small place!
Photos are from yesterday evening when stage was still being built.

The stage is located on Merchant’s Quay, a place surrounded by Church, Cemetery and City Hall.
Great place for sure!
Dolores should play tonight at 9:00 PM and we will try our best to live tweet from the event.
Keep in mind the concert will be broadcast on Irish TV RTÉ at 10:15 PM and thus Dolores’ show won’t be broadcast live.

Dolores in the free magazine of the city simply entitled “Limerick”

As you can see on flyer, the Limerick radio live95fm is partnership to the event so the show may be broadcast on this radio, just a possibility, no exact info about that right now.

“Concerto di Natale”: photos & videos

“Concerto di Natale” posted on Facebook something like 900+ photos (some of them HQ) of the event.
Below a selection of some of the best ones featuring Dolores taken during rehearsals and backstage (in leather suit) then during the show (different suit).

Also to notice, Paolo from the website Cranberries Italia (cranberriesitalia.it) who attended the show posted his own review along with some beautiful photos which you can find at the bottom of this page. (link no longer available)

Dolores sang for the Pope tonight at “Concerto di Natale”

December 7, 2013  |  2 Comments  |  by Axl  |  Dolores O'Riordan

Earlier tonight was the recording of “Concerto di Natale” in Roma, Italy which will be broadcast on Italian TV on december 24th. This is the 5th time Dolores O’ Riordan is coming to this show. Her previous appearances were in 2001, 2002, 2005 and 2006.

This year Dolores sang 4 songs:

  • Letting Go (performed live for the 1st time ever & with different lyrics according to fan Schizophrenic Lu)
  • Silent Night (duet with Elisa Toffoli)
  • Away In A Manger
  • Happy Xmas, War Is Over (All Artists together as final)

“Silent Night”, “Away In A Manger” and “Happy Xmas, War Is Over” were already performed by Dolores at some other “Concerto di Natale” through the years, so we can’t wait to see what the 2013 versions sound like.

The new Pope, Pope Franciscus, was in the audience as he is spending his first Christmas in Vatican after being elected last March. Seeing a Pope at the show hasn’t happened in quite a long time as the last Pope, Pope Benedictus Sextus Decimus didn’t like the “Concerto di Natale” very much and we have to go back to Pope Ioannes Paulus II to see a Pope attending the event.
This time again, Dolores had a special audience with the Pontiff earlier this week. Let’s remember she met Pope Ioannes Paulus II in 2001 and 2002.

The Cranberries are still making profits

December 5, 2013  |  Comments Off on The Cranberries are still making profits  |  by Axl  |  The Cranberries

For those who might have doubts, an article entitled “New album comes up ‘Roses’ for The Cranberries as profits jump to €320k” and published in the Irish Examiner today reveals The Cranberries are still making money as a band.

The article is interesting but quite technical as the journalist Gordon Deegan gives fairly precise figures earned by the band’s Curtain Call Ltd in 2012, a year boosted by the album “Roses”. All four members have a 25% shareholding in Curtain Call Ltd.
Even if the revenues are not in million(s) anymore probably due to the crisis in the music industry these last years (but which artist is not impacted!) this is still a good news.

The Italian singer Elisa Toffoli just announced on Twitter that she will be singing a duet with Dolores O’ Riordan in Roma for the “Concerto di Natale” this December 7th.
